I miss the lines, but not the gameplay.
Broken is a term that is often used incorrectly to describe a champion that is simply too strong, but it's actual definition perfectly described old Yorick. There was no middle ground between his overpowered and underpowered states. A tiny buff could tip him over the edge, and so Riot was forced to leave him heavily nerfed.
He wasn't useless, but no one in their right mind would try to say he wasn't below par. If you compare the amount of effort needed to get a positive result out of him to other champions he was falling very far behind. There were simply too many other options for filling the same exact role. He was most certainly not doing fine.
Keep in mind Yorick was subpar when up against people who know how he works. Old Yorick was not overpowered, it's just that no one at your level of play had any idea how to correctly fight him.
