A Fix Suggestion for the Support Itemization Problem
So its no mystery that
are getting removed, which is sad because it was a really big deal when it came out and an even bigger deal when they added quests for them to incentivize support like play.
Although I do understand @Riot 's reasoning. These support items are being used in ways that they were not intended for, such as how
has been since its inception. Being built in top lane, by adc, junglers; Being abused by really anyone who would take the hit for the minor gold gain. Along with kleptomancy being in the game this problem becomes bigger and it is even a larger problem than that when you consider the cheaper price of items in recent patches as well as increased initial gp/s.
Removing
however I dont believe is the solution.
I believe riot found the solution a long time ago but are unwilling to do the same thing twice.
To prevent other champions from abusing the jungle riot invented items like
and in later patches made it tied to
.
This allowed Junglers to secure their role and prevent a ton of abuse, Making an item and a summoner spell that could only get you ahead or up to speed if you used them to their full potential. Jungle camps now give in comparison very minimal effect without these items and the only way you can make it worth the buy is if you continue to farm the jungle, taking time away from the time you could just be spending in lane.
I say keep the quests because they make support more dynamic, however I would have riot make a summoner spell like
that could help an ally and allow the buying of those support items. Make sure there is a requirement for another player to be nearby to get the gold gain but make it worth the supports while by making it a large enough amount that a support could logistically still accomplish what they need to. (with the effect currently in place where last hitting puts the gold gain on cooldown so that adcs dont abuse it)
Having a summoner spell slot held up by this will dissuade most roles from picking it up and make it unviable in most of its abused scenarios.
