Whatever happened to "Parties"?

During preseason, Riot has told about the new feature, "parties", that allow groups to stick together after games. A while back on the PBE, parties was added, which changed the look of blind pick during the lobby similar to draft pick lobby. However it was only implemented for only a few days before it was removed, and hasn't been heard about since. If someone (a rioter if possible) can explain the current status of the Parties feature?
