Question about BotRK math

So BotRK busts tanks down, some would argue otherwise but 8% health is a big deal in conjunction with attack speed steroids or other %health damage(vayne kog etc.) or even straight up damage. I build bloodthirster on most adcs for it's enhanced survivability but on super carry squish champs who don't really benefit as well from this survivability and faster dps is obviously superior, however the line between the two situations is blurred at times and is further obscured by my lack of understanding of what is/isn't applied to the lifesteal of BotRK. So this is my question, is BotRK's 10% lifesteal applied to the true damage proc from it's passive, and if so does the lifesteal of other items/runes/masteries applied to the aforementioned true damage? Any and all insight is appreciated. Thank you.

Lifesteal only applies to basic attacks unless otherwise stated (Hydra). So items that create more damamge (% current health on BOTRK) doesn't give lifesteal. However, the +25 AD on an item will add to lifesteal because it's your basic attack.

I forgot about this change (quoted by Uberaffe), but the item will specifically say it when it applies lifesteal.

First, its passive is not true damage, it gets applied as physical damage meaning that armor does reduce it. Second, yes any lifesteal you have does apply to the final damage you deal from the passive proc. Fun Fact: the lifesteal on the passive was actually just added in the last patch, or it will be on the next patch. I have been bouncing between pbe and normals lately and I can't remember which it is live on.

im pretty sure the damage you deal to your target is what you heal off of, say you are hitting a tank with no armor and 5k hp or w/e, you'll deal somewhere around 400 damage each auto and if you had 10% lifesteal you would heal off 10% of that damage dealt.

At least thats my understanding....

Well honestly ad doesn't synergyze with attack speed as much as with this sort of %damage, I mean by definition if you're going to get a significant amount of damage off with this passive in regards to your current ad then it follows that you would benefit more from proccing the passive more times per second(against high hp targets of course) but regardless my main concern is building this situationally on squishy type hyper carries(vayne kog) versus buying myself more time in lane by rushing bloodthirster so I can stick around and grab more cs than I could otherwise. But mainly vayne is who I almost exclusively build BotRK on ever single time, first quite often(besides boots of course) but vayne is a peculiar case as when outfitted with this item in her build she suddenly benefits more from additional as than additional ad because of the double percent damage(one of which totally mitigates armor) but because of the as cap getting super crits from ie is ideal, but late game I like to build bloodthirster because of the survivability somewhat operating under the assumption that I'm getting 30% lifesteal off of all the damage I'm doing which is obviously not true(silver bolts) but I still wanted to understand the math so I can build smarter not harder.
