The death of Mages?

I have been playing this game for a substantial amount of time. Starting in season 2, I have always played ap mages. Never before though have i felt that riot is punishing mages for the very role itself. I recall that the general idea was that skill shots equates to more damage, or utility? After seeing the mana regeneration concepts, i feel as though you are abandoning long rage ap mages (Xerath ,VelkozLux ) . How is unlimited casting an issue on long range mages riot? the fact that long range mage's, typically have the common trait of skill shots, wouldn't that be something to supplement them with? Are you expecting perfect skill shots 100% of the time? Or us to sit there as a useless meat bag. You have yet to have done anything to really emphasize or supplement this type of playstyle. Perhaps an item that had the reverse effect of item 3001 could have been something you could have done (yes there would be an outer limit to this new item). Yet all I see are changes that are continually harping this sort of playstyle, how effective magic resist is compared to armor. The fact that you shortened the game time yet left late game champions (effects quite a few mages) to deal with this. The random increase in ap items? the decrease in ability power we have seen? Either someone at riot sersiouly had a bad experience with mages or riot just wants to remove them from this season.
