Suggested change to Bond of Stone
Current effects: Grants 4% damage reduction. Redirects 6% of damage taken by the nearest allied champion to you instead. Damage redirection stops when below 5% max health.
Proposed effects: Grants 5% damage reduction. Redirects 7.5% damage taken by the nearby allied champion with the lowest % health. Damage redirection stops when below 5% max health. (If all nearby allies are full health, their actual amount of health acts as the tie breaker for who gets the damage redirection, giving it to the lowest.)
Reasoning behind these changes: Currently, the earlygame effects of Bond of Stone currently make it a mandatory pick for Warden-class supports, and its damage reduction for late game Problem is, the damage reduction aspect is overshadowed entirely by Grasp of the Undying (which grants the same amount of survivability after landing 3 Grasp-empowered auto attacks in one life) and Courage of the Colossus (one fully used shield 5% health shield does the job, and it's capable of up to 25%), and the damage redirection loses relevance during team fights because the only way to control who the damage redirection affects is by standing really close to the ally you want to protect, which is not as important as positioning yourself in a place that is actually useful.
Hence my proposed changes. Making the damage reduction slightly more substantial would make tanks feel slightly less bad about losing the survivability they could have had with Grasp or CotC. Changing the mindless static damage reduction mechanic to a dynamic defense that places itself where it is needed would mean that your adc gets the full effects of the mastery earlygame and you don't feel like your mastery is being wasted (or is a restrictive chore) during team fights. Strength of the mastery is increased, and the secondary effects for your team are better used.
This would make Bond of Stone the mastery to use for tank supports, but since Windspeaker's Blessing is the same way for utility/healing supports, I imagine this is okay. The more intelligent passive and increased defensive stats could actually make Bond of Stone a viable mastery for a goodguy tank top laner like Poppy or Garen who could trade off Grasp or Courage in a safe lane match-up to sacrifice earlygame strength for late game team-helpfulness, or take some damage off the 13/3/7 Syndra who's carrying the game and getting focused in fights.
Conclusion: So, what do you think? Would this be too strong? Would it be just right? Would it be a fair counterpart to Courage of the Colossus for tanky initiators such as Leona or Braum? Would you consider using it top lane even if you missed out on the damage redirection? Let me know and comment below!
