Why were mages so poorly compensated for stats?

I really hate that none of the mages got an AD buff due to removal of runes and masteries. We lost 5 minion damage, 2 AD from the 2 AD/3 ap mastery, and I can't run ad reds that I preferred to run for lane harass with autos. Additionally, there is no runes that allow me to make a auto based early game setup. Can we get a rune that just gives me some AD, not some wonky situational buff? This rune system seems to have completely ostracized basic playstyles for more flashy and gimmicky runes. Not a fan.

Less magic resist is basically the answer. People would often take scaling MR runes which gave them a whopping 27 MR lategame. We no longer have that. Also mages still get a butt-ton of AP to start with so basically they're all kind of glass cannons now until they build resistances.

Also we did get the stopwatch, not really a compensation for losing armor runes against ad matchups but can reward you with great outplays if you use it right

there is a global damage buff against minions

that doesn't help against champs but still.

they just need to nerf Zed for now then see where we land

Not going to comment on other points, but we did get compensated for 5 minion damage loss: this mastery is now built in for all champions. (source: official patch 7.22 notes)

new runes are all trash its all just a gimick there is no skill matchups just noodle fights. how did they think this was going to improve the fucking game? all they ever had to do was make runes free or cheap and they did just before they removed them such retards
