So can anyone explain how Ekko is more of an assassin than before?

The whole problem with using him as an assassin is his full damage combo takes about 4 seconds to complete after you engage. His parallel convergence takes an additional 3 seconds. Which means you're engagement is going to be around 5-7 seconds in which one of your main damaging attacks is delayed until the end of that.

That seems to be the main problem, Ekko's R is almost always best reserved for a disengage instead of actually attacking the target. Whether they like it or not, they've kitted this guy to be a tank.

well they changed his ult healing to be more effective as ap as well as his q ratio. also they increased the kill time for all assassins and if anything made ekkos shorter

When you fight someone as Ekko, you start off with W, then jump in with the stun. I main AP Ekko. His engagements are 2 seconds or less. Watch this vid- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c2sOhWZDgAA

5-7 Seconds!? No! Ekko throws his W down nearly 2 seconds before he engages, than he gets either a sheild or a shield and a stun, in either scenarios he will E to his target and Q them if it doesn't seem like the second part of his Q will hit he engages for an auto attack procing his passive in the procedure and disengaging with the passive's speed while trying to hit the second part of his Q (If he gets the 1.75 seconds stun he will E his target, hit both parts of his Q and put an auto or two then disengage after about 1.5 seconds). If Ekko want to finish his target off and land his ult he will hover around his target from afar for about 5 seconds, using his Q after it comes off cooldown to utilise the slow zone and force his target to stand on his ult. So while it might seem 5-7 seconds it's about 3 seconds of actually being engaged in attack range.
