A problem with keystones on Sona

I started to pick up Sona again and took Aery on her. The problem is, whenever I tried to Q on the enemy and my ADC happened to be in my Q aura (which is really big by the way), Aery would go to shield my ADC instead of poking, and it happened about 70% of the time. It's not a huge deal, but it is mentally stressfull and unnecessary. When I use Q, I usually want to deal damage 99% of the time. I mean, if Aery was not made for Sona, then what champion is it made for? Sure, if that's the case, then Guardian should work on Sona too right? Nope, it did not work. Her AOE did not proc it, and neither did W heal. This really sucks, considering all the nerf she has gotten because of these keystones, and not to mention the recent nerf on kleptomancy. I struggle against a Janna in lane, and that says A LOT.
