Unique Style

With so many champions it is always refreshing to see new play styles being introduced. Champion that just function differently then the norm are enjoyable and fun to play. This isn't a simple matter of having a unique ability or passive but rather a style of play that doesn't fit the regular mold. I acknowledge that every champion is unique and diverse in its own way but what I am talking about is a different play style rather then different mechanics.

Juggernauts are a perfect example of a new play style. They don't play the same as a lot of other champions because they have a new style of play. There is now a set of items designed to help this new play style and as a result people need to learn new tactics to deal with them. With a new play style it will obviously be difficult and take time to learn how to deal with it. At first, every game I was playing had a Darius, Skarner, Garren, and mord ban. However, as the time went on it became Mord, Garren, Skarner. Then Just Mord and Skarner. It seems to me that people are learning the new style and what works against it.

There are examples beyond the Juggernauts. I main support and I have been finding that supports have a huge range of play styles, probably more then any other role. Sona works well as a DPS assistant, Soraka is a crazy powerful healer, Janna has more peel then a banana, Leona can engage on anything, Braum can absorb huge amounts of ranged damage, Blitzcrank is great at getting picks, Shen has global presence, Lulu is perfect for protect the adc comps, Bard roams all the time, Taric is kind of like the support version of a juggernaut, Alistar can dive any tower, Nami is the master of chasing. All these champions not only have unique skills/mechanics but they all play differently from each other in positioning, builds, their role in a teamfight and usefulness.

Perhaps this is why I enjoy support so much, diversity. I never feel like I am playing as or against the same thing over and over and when I am put into other roles I feel like...its similar somehow. Like whether I am fighting Leblanc, Fizz, Zed, Akali, or Ahri in the mid it is the same thing. I have to play the same way against all of them because they have a similar style of, "If I can, I will burst you down". They all try to get picks and they all have methods of going in, killing you, and getting out. They don't play the same mechanically but they all have the exact same style of play. On the other spectrum: Xerath, Ziggs, Lux, Syndra, Brand, Anivia, and Viktor all have a similar style as well, they clear waves quickly have huge poke from afar and no/little way of escaping. I feel like no matter which one I play against I just do the same thing. There are a few champions that shine, in the diversity of mid, but are played so rarely it makes me sad.

It was a similar thing in top (which is why i actually like the new Juggernauts) and I hate ADC role because they all feel the same to me. Jungler play style seems to always boil down to gank often or farm quickly (I'll admit I'm a terrible jungler) and I never feel a true sense of diversity there either. When I sit down and think about it I wonder if perhaps part of this feeling is that I don't main mid, top, or jungle. I think that maybe I don't feel the diversity because I don't regular play them, but when I do...I always get this feeling that I'm playing another version of x, y, or z champion. Then I ask myself, why did I (and still do) feel such a strong sense of diversity in the support role?
