How to make the 10 Ban System work
I'll start right with my thoughts on how to make a 10 ban system work.
The Problem >I initially ask you to think of what happens if the same ban system (i.e. red side ban -> blue side ban -> red side......) were to jump from 5 to 10 champions. The obvious and major concern I think most of us have is the amount of time the banning process will take. Currently I'd say that it's about 4-5 minutes for banning and then you begin champion selection. Making it a 10 ban system would make it take a bit longer which is something I'm sure we're all keen on avoiding.
The Solution >I made an excel sheet that can help make sense of these rules >Excel Doc
>Right from the start everyone gets to pick a champion (just like in blind pick) and those are the champs that are banned.
>If there are no conflicts (conflict being defined as somebody from both red and blue side pick the same champion to ban) then perfect. We're done here.
>The complicated part is when there are conflicts. My thoughts are to divide this event into two different scenarios:
>Odd numbers of conflicts and Even numbers of conflicts >_* There will always be another round of banning until 10-11 champions are banned. _
Odd Conflicts >There could be 1, 3, or 5 conflicts
>If there is 1 conflict then the champion that caused the conflict is automatically banned and each side gets 1 more ban (Resulting in 1 bans totals). If there is another conflict during this bonus round then the champion in question is banned again and no more bans re granted (Resulting in 10 bans total)
>If there are 3 conflicts then all 3 champions are banned and 2 of the 3 summoners from each side are picked to ban again
>If there are 5 conflict then all 5 champions are banned and 4 of the 5 summoners from each side are picked to ban again
Even Conflicts >There could be 2 or 4 conflicts
>If there are 2 conflicts then both champions are banned and one person from both sides get to ban again
>If there are 4 conflicts then all 4 champions are banned and 2 people from both sides gets to ban again
Pros
- Everybody gets the ban they wanted plus a chance for another ban
- Fewer rounds than the current system means less time spent in champ select
Cons
- Slightly confusing (Although with the right UI/UX this problem can be completely mitigated)
- Potential of 11 bans may seem like a lot (or maybe not, Idk, I'm not a doctor)
tldr: It's a team-round based system that actually has 10-11 bans and a (rare) maximum of 4 ban rounds
