I've been having very strange normals games lately...

I just played a game against all but 1 gold opponents, while my team was all unranked and bronze except for me at gold. Yeah, we lost hard. Now I'm loading into a game with all but 1 gold in my team and all unranked and bronze in the enemy team, except for one gold. The MMR difference between the teams is only 30-20 in these games but... should this really be possible?

Normal games are not with the same MMR as ranked. People also play normal games for fun - like Zilean jungle, MF top, AD blitzcrank and so on. Bitching about normal games is strange.

Normal MMR runs differently than ranked MMR.

You can have games between one team of mostly gold players against a team with mostly bronze players in a normal game because their normals MMR is similar.

Does that mean that this should be possible? Probably not. Is the system still working as intended? Yes it is.

I'm unranked and I usually get matched up with Diamonds. That's because my MMR in normals is really high, and I usually don't play ranked. It's nothing strange.

A lot of people don't play norms while they rank, so even if they're plat their norms mmr might be silver. After climbing ranked for months and going back to norms, it'll take a while for your norms mmr to catch up, hence situations like this.

I find that in all of my normal games, the enemy has at least one or two Plat+ players, while my team typically has none. Just recently I played a normal where my team consisted of 3 silvers, 1 bronze, and 1 unranked (never ranked) player against an enemy team with 3 plats and 2 golds. We won, but that matchmaking was still stupid.

There's a match in my match history right now whereby my team was 4 silver 1 bronze vs 4 gold 1 plat.

It shouldn't. I just came from a normals with 3 silver and 2 unranked on my team, against 4 unranked and a gold 5. Apparently Riot thinks being unranked is equal to being silver.

unranked can mean they just haven't played their provisional yet lol . The could have been gold or higher last season. Or they might not rank.

Each game mode has its own separate MMR. Normal, Ranked, Team Builder, ARAM, etc... . I'm only gold and I run into a lot of plats/diamonds in normal because we don't play normals much.

Normals has its own mmr. I have this issue when I make pushes in ranked, for a while I was plat, but facing silver 5s in normals. ALso, if I duo with a level 17, im facing all bronze people or pre 30 normally.

Yeah, I've had similar games. It's because of the duo buddy system, I had a Diamond 3 carry my game against High silver/low gold because he duo'd with his Silver V friend.

Ah I see... so I should pretend I don't see the ranks in the game to avoid frustration? I knew the MMRs were separate but I guess I didn't look at it that way.

Normal games skew the mmr up a bit. For example a lot of higher ranked players have a much lower normal mmr because they don't play normal as often. Also groups make it different as well.
