The Chosen: Malzahar Zyra Brand Velkoz Vladimir Cassiopeia Annie Fiddlesticks Anivia Ziggs Xerath Syndra Veigar Swain

The Spoken: Viktor Kennen

The Others: Lulu Lux Orianna Morgana

The Reborn: Zilean Heimerdinger Karthus Karma

The Travelers: Azir Leblanc Ahri Katarina Lissandra Kassadin

  1. Chosen - immobile mages currently reviewed/updated with the current MYMU patch
  2. Spoken - mentioned to also receive updates
  3. Others - immobile mages not included in the MYMU update
  4. Reborn - immobile mages not included in the MYMU update, yet have previously undergone major reviews/updates
  5. Travelers - mages with alternative mobility options (dashes, blinks, etc.)

I'd like to look at those I've coined 'the Others', currently this group consists of Lulu, Lux, Orianna, and Morgana (possibly Karma as well). The obvious connection they all share is their Mage/Support hybrid natures and in one from or another they each possess 1. a shield and 2. a form of soft CC (slow, snare).

There has always been a delicate balancing act around a hybrid Mage-Supports 'adaptability' and finding ways to enable both their offensive and defensive battle potentials.

These 4(5) ladies can largely fit under multiple Mage or Controller Classes/Subclasses: Burst Mage, Battle Mage, Artillery Mage, Enchanter, and Disruptor. To take a look at each of them individually:

Lulu Lulu : A Class 5 Enchanter, Class 3 Battle Mage, and Class 3 Disruptor. Currently she is played ~50% Support, 30% Mid, and 15% Top

Lux Lux : A Class 5 Burst Mage, Class 4 Artillery Mage, Class 2 Disruptor, and Class 1 Enchanter. Currently she is played ~85% Mid and 15% Support

Orianna Orianna : A Class 4(5) Disruptor, Class 3 Burst Mage, Class 3 Battle Mage, and Class 3 Enchanter. Currently she is played ~98% Mid and 2% Other

Morgana Morgana : A Class 5 Disruptor, Class 2(3) Enchanter, and Class 2 Battle/Artillery/Burst Mage. Currently she is played ~80% Support and 20% Mid

Karma Karma : A Class 3 Enchanter, Class 3 Disruptor, Class 3 Battle Mage, Class 2 Artillery Mage, and Class 1 Burst Mage. Currently she is played ~50% Support and 40% Mid

How does Riot feel about these classy ladies? On a scale of Mage to Support, I feel it goes: Mage - Lux - Orianna - Morgana - Lulu - Karma - Support, yet role percentages would place them as Mage - Orianna - Lux - Karma - Lulu - Morgana - Support. In what direction do you feel you balance each of them? Are Orianna and Lux more mages with supportive elements and Lulu, Karma, and Morgana the opposite (supports with mage qualities) or are they all more generalized as mage/support hybrids?

How do you feel the AP/Mana item review will affect them? Will some benefit more than others in build diversity? Who do you think will come off stronger(maybe too strong?)? Who will be hurting?

Last but not least, these ladies currently aren't included in the MYMU, are there any particular reasons for their exclusion? Do you feel they are mostly in a healthy spot or do you see them differentiated enough from other immobile mages, due to their defensive options/hybrid nature, to review them under different circumstances? Are there any changes you would like to make to any of them down the line or were there changes you wanted to include but couldn't for this review rotation?

I find this mildly interesting and pretty well thought out.

An interesting take. Do you have a specific point or do you just want to discuss?

I really liked what you explained about the hybrids.. I'm not exactly thrilled with the new graphics for Athenes (I think it looks silly, the "red cloud skirt" or for Yordles "headband that covers their face" needs some readjustment). I'm not sure why there wasn't anything done for tweaking and I sort of hope that changes...

I also don't know why they weren't included for itemization but they weren't the only ones left out of the itemization either. I really do think there could have been more thought put into it. I thought the goal was for item diversity and it looks like the actual response will be more homogenized builds for mages in general. (Honestly though, that's been the problem all along, there are very few items that are gold efficient or useful for mage builds.)
