Champion Selection Draft Pick - Summoner's Rift
As someone who plays this game for fun, it gets really tiring when League decides to give you a random position to play of that you did not pick. There are a lot of people who play this game for fun (as I do) and want to play it in a more casual sense. A casual sense meaning that they play it with their friends or hop on after a long day of work to unwind and relax to have some fun. A casual sense also refers to not playing the game seriously and/or wanting to improve to become better and potentially get noticed someday.
All this in mind, the thing that bothers me the most is when I play draft pick (which is the most logical choice to play as blind pick can be really "iffy" on who gets what position) and after waiting 3-5 minutes (including that period where you accept 2-3 times and then it feels like everything resets until it finds another match 1 minute later) I get assigned a position that I don't want to play as. For example, lets say I chose Top & Bottom (respectively) as my 2 choices of desired positions. All of a sudden, League finds a match and I get assigned either Support or Jungle. As a casual user, I never have wanted to (and have no desire to) learn how to play those positions effectively. So I feel that playing them with the potential of having to play as a champion that I've never played as before would completely alter and potentially ruin the gameplay.
Not wanting to play a position that I'm not comfortable enough is fair and I am completely allowed to feel that way. Personally, I would much rather wait an extra minute or two in order to find a match to get one of the positions that I picked in the first place. I understand at times people get assigned these positions to decrease overall wait times for games. But all in all, I feel that this bothers more people more than it does help them. I did not wait 3-5 minutes just to be assigned a position I don't want to play just to have League of Legends (Riot) give me a punishment (allotted time ban) for "dodging" when I don't want to play that position in the first place. I would much rather wait an extra minute or two and get the position I want. This would end up shortening the total amount of time wasted searching for a game in the first place (at least on my end).
If League of Legends feels the need to punish individuals for quitting games before they even start, who are they really punishing? Answer: The 9 other people who waited for a game to start (in addition to the time spent in champion select) and now have to wait another 30 seconds to 1 minute to find another match and then have to go through the whole champion select process again. The individual who quits is assessed a time penalty before they are allowed to start another game. Personally, I can make the time start and then find something to do around the house until the time is finished. It does not affect me in any way nor do I feel that I have been punished for delaying the game process for 9 other players. And in all honesty, by the time the time ban is finished, chances are the other 9 players are just finishing up their next champion selection process. So in reality, there isn't much time wasted in the first place.
I know this has been a long read and I appreciate anyone who has taken the time to read this. I do welcome opinions and would love feedback on how I can improve this post as a whole. I just hope that this gives a new perspective (hopefully) to the League of Legends users who are not accustomed to the perspective in which I see things. Please also feel free to answer the poll I'm attaching to this as well. Thanks again!
