How to be a Good Lux Support?

Hello! I'm a support main and I mostly play poke supports, such as Karma (highest mastery), Zyra, Lulu and Annie (started playing her for not too long ago). Thresh? Nah. Soraka? Nah. Yesterday I bought Lux because I like her bright personality/design (which is relatable to me) and her ability to carry even if your ADC sucks. So, I bought her and started playing her a few times as a support, and I realise she has a huge weakness against tankier engage supports, such as Thresh and Alistar. It feels like as if I can't poke them down, and when they engage I can't really stop them. So I wonder if there are any advice against those as Lux support. And are there any tips for her in general? I've read a few guides and watched a few tutorials, so I kind of know the basics. Lux's design and kit gives her the impression of politeness and brightness which I really like (I'm thinking of maining her because she has a lot of potential in playstyle and combos). So, is there anyone out there that's able to help me?

The best piece of advice is for you to not do it. Lux is not a support and is not a good champion in general.

  1. Don't pick Lux support.

as somone who got lvl 7 Lux SOLELY playing her support.

here are some tips

item 3098 first back and get item 2049 2nd back

dont want until you have enough gold for both the amount of gold generation from item 3098 is nearly TWICE that of item 3303 you will get gold much faster if u back and upgrade as wlel as unlock the passive at 650

start q then get E then W max E then W as soon as u finish item 3092 grab a item 3504 ASAP

this has nothing to do with the current meta, its ALWAYS been op on her, i have been building it on her since its release.. this is also why u max W second becuase with 45% cdr u can keep the buff active indefinitely

after item 3504 ..item 2049 and item 3092 i disagree with the reaming full on support build.

at this point you want ap i normally like to grab an early item 3070 after item 2049 but before item 3092

the amounr ot mana is provides along with the 25% refund REALLY is underrated. i will say i have not tried item 3174 + item 3107

becuase of the ap from item 3174 passive it COULD work but i would have to test it

i prefer item 3040 though, again becuase you litller dont have to worry about mana the second u buy a item 3070 , and the sheer amount of harass u can do with the nearly infinite mana seems to outweigh any drawbacks

  1. Know when to pick her. She gives a little bit of shielding, but she's best for her CC and wave clear. If your team needs those 2 things, then she's a good option to fill the comp.
  2. Know when to avoid her. She has a low winrate as a support, and I think that's partly because she's designed to farm up.
  3. Gotta hit your CC regularly. As a support, her Q is a big part of her kit. Can't miss it.
  4. Learn your match-ups. I think lux support does best when the botlane snowballs. Her winrate is best on stomps but falls off until extreme late game. SO if you pick lux, you really have to be able to finish the game early.

To not play Lux support because it sucks... Just kidding but Lux is definitely not the best support right now. However if you are interested, build a item 3504 and proc it with your W, that item is broken on everyone that can use it. Also make sure you start either item 3301 or item 3303 to get gold for your AP items, NOT item 1056 that item is for mid lane not support.

Windspeaker's Keystone just like an enchanter, this is important for your team-wide shields on W late game (the buff is massive especially if you get most of them on the way back when the shield strength is doubled)

Start Spellthief's, not Coin. You'll run out of mana sooner, but if you keep your pokes up you'll generate more consistent gold, and the bonus ap will help you early (increases your shield strength too). Try not to over poke or waste mana though, because while Spellthief's does give mana regen, it's not a huge amount, so try not to oom until around 7:45-8:15 at the earlier, back around 8:55-9:20 with your adc, assuming you haven't been killed.

Save your Q for engages. This means 2 things. Either: a) the enemy jungler/assassin/engage support goes in, you Q them and help your adc escape, or b) the enemy adc is out of position and you can punish them before the support can get there (So Q them and go in, but hold back a little in case it's not a guaranteed kill, your Q is a critical cooldown and you don't want to be punished for not having it)

You should get item 3098 and item 2049 first back, and upgrade to item 3341 , then immediately start working towards item 3504 . Your singular goal right now is to finish Ardent ASAP, don't even get boots immediately. As soon as ardent is finished, get item 2301 as quickly as you can, then get item 3158. Now work on item 3174, as soon as you finished Athene's, work on item 3107. This leaves you one slot for an item of your choice, I typically build item 3089 since it's a solid all-around item and several of your items give ap. If you wanted a slightly more sustained build though you could get item 3027 instead, it's preference really.

As for playstyle, just try and get those good skillshot shields off for big ardent and windspeaker's buffs during teamfights, and don't be afraid to ult a fleeing enemy. If they get away under tower, light them up anyways, a "stolen kill" (your team might say that, but the term "escape" implies they wouldn't get them anyways) is better than an enemy that can back and heal.

Number 1 Lux supp tip : Remember your passive. If you hit a Q or E (or R) try to get an AA in for the bonus damage. You can chunk people quick.

If you are against engaging tank supps, save your Q to snare them (or the ADC if they try to join...or both if they line up). Watch your mana, as E is expensive, and use it to zone (leave it out there for the whole 5 seconds if you want...though lots of ADCs will ask if you know you can reactivate for damage). It can also illuminate brush. Try to save your R for enemies getting away (so you don't KS).

Don't play Lux support. If you want to play more supportive just go play mid and get a supportive build.
