MASTERIES

18/6/6 (tank/utility/offense ... dont ask why they were switched in order) seems more impactful than any other combo on almost any champion. because of this, we can probably expect tank junglers to become a thing again. you CAN go 6/6/18... but dont expect your clear to improve much. if you go this route, the goal should be to gank as often as possible to make use of your masteries.

(more detail to be inserted here... this year we have MEANINGFUL choices in masteries, but most of the high budget points that benefit junglers seem to be in defense)

FIRST CLEAR most junglers will still prefer machete. not only auto attack based junglers either. your clear with this item will be faster on almost any champion, and what it lacks in regen you will make up for after your first back.

talisman looks tempting for junglers like gragus/elise/ekko , but from my experience with ekko it seems to just make the first clear harder than it should be. the only reason i would suggest this item is if you care about the bonus experience, or are trying something crazy to make an otherwise unviable jungler work.

HUNTERS POTION the rule seems to be CLEAR 3 CAMPS AND BACK much like it was at the beginning of season 5. you might get an extra camp or 2 by buying 3 potions, but it seems more time and gold efficient to just buy the refillable potion and upgrade it to hunters on your first back.

once you buy hunters you have unlimited sustain (with defensive tree %regen bonuses particularly) you dont even need to pop your potion charges, they will automatically pop for you when you kill a camp. this way you will always have charges at the ready when preparing for a gank. since your regen will spike when you are lower in health, you will never get too low to keep clearing.

start popping charges when you decide you are ready to gank. try to get near full health and still have charges flowing so you can shrug off any damage you are about to take.
