Why are A+ ranks so common?

There seems to be a large threshold between getting an A+ rank instead of an S- rank. I've been getting pretty upset at just how often I've gotten an A+ instead of my intended Mastery Chest. While I understand that it's meant to be difficult, it's so frustrating you were one rank away from getting a chest. Here are some numbers for you to explain it: I have a record of A+ on 10 champs, some of which I've gotten A+ before on. In comparison, I have 10 champs with a combination of S+ (1), S (3), & S- (6) ranks, some of which I've also gotten A+ ranks on at one time. In other words, A+ is more than 2x as common than S- rank. That's not luck.

It's actually a bar you need at least 20 keys before you can earn any S ranks.

as of 2/3 patches ago getting an S has become much more difficult, no idea why

S is actually short for "shin", the Japanese word for "perfect".

The stats that go into ranks are probably close to normally distributed, like a bell curve. So ranks on the edges are less likely than ranks in the middle. S's and D's are less likely than A's and B's. It would be very strange for A+'s to be less common than S-'s.

That said, some people are just better than others at getting good grades, particularly on certain champs. There have definitely been people saying that they get S's very often. In contrast, I am bad and almost never get S's. So maybe you're just really close to being in that former camp, but not quite there, so you get more A+'s than usual.
