Mechanic I don't know how to use?

Hi, I watch a lot of LCS/pro-players and a lot of the time on their streams I see them toggle something that shows them the range of their autos/abilities. How do you do this? Are you supposed to hold something down? I think it would be very helpful to be able to see range of stuff but I thought this was normally only possible without autocast. If it's relevant, I use a Mac.

Thanks!

There's an option in settings that shows range indicators on smartcast, it might be what you're looking for.

To show your AA range press A (it also does more than that but it would become a long discussion, search Attack Move if you're interested in it). For the abilities' ranges they are probably using a combination of CTRL/ALT + Q/W/E/R, you can change it to whatever combination you prefer. There's an option that lets you see the range of the ability if you hold down the button and then fires it once you release it but i doubt they're using it because it makes casting the abilities way slower if you press and release the button instantly (due to the fatc that before firing it it shows you the range). It can still be useful on certain champs like Blitz or Thresh.

for auto attacks, you hold the A button

One of the options in the controls menu (it should be at the very bottom) allows you to turn in range indicators. This means that when you press down a button, it shows the range, and when you lift up it casts. It might feel a little laggy at first because of the short delay, but if your challenger and press buttons a mile a minute its more useful. I don't like range indicators, but its better to get used to them.

Click A for basic attacks. There is an option in the Controls Menu at the bottom for abilities, allowing for when you hold a key down for the range to show up.
