Sooo... When am I going to be able to play Galio?
I own Gatekeeper Galio and Commando Galio... I used to love playing this champ. Is there a particular reason one of the oldest champs goes under the radar as basically unplayable for so long? He has an identity crisis as a Juggernaut and a ranged mage. In his current state, he can't be played anywhere. Mid is filled with high ranged poke, which Galio can either strike back or farm; his melee status does not allow him to do both without using spells or being poked down. Top is a no go because top is filled with AD which makes Galio's passive void, because you probably won't be building MR any time early. Support isn't all that effective because Galio needs items to function. You might be able to survive the jungle but any meta jungle is going to invade you or out pressure you.
My main question is when will we see some serious changes. I'll throw some of my ideas in as to what I think can be done with the champion.
You can take him one of two ways while still keeping his identity intact. His Q and his E synchronize with a mage as they are both range poke. His other skills, passive, w and ultimate, make him somewhat of a juggernaut. I say juggernaut, not tank, because building tanky and still doing damage is their thing which the passive insinuates. With this in mind, you would want to choose his most iconic ability and work from there. I think most would say it's probably the AoE taunt. Flash ulting is most of this champs power. In this scenario, you'd want to synchronize the Q and E to be more in line with the juggernaut fantasy. I would make the E able to be cast while moving or a dash to help with getting in to ultimate. The Q can be some more of a melee form of AoE slow. You could make it an auto reset with a cone of effect with a size around Mordekaiser's is. This will require a target and applies a slow in the area. The passive can stay the same, you might want to change some numbers on it however. The W makes sense in the kit as well because the champ now wants to go in to land Q's and ultimates.
The other option is to make him a mage. I feel in this direction, the passive, W should be completely changed, but the ult should retain some of it's current state and be altered to fit the playstyle. The Q should retain it's current state, scaling should be buffed however. The passive should be removed for something that fits what the champion is going to do. I would suggest a shield that procs when you land 3 spells in a row. I would make the W an AoE explosion (Not very big) that shreds MR if it hits one target, or some defensive boon if you hit multiple champions. This allows him to be good for picks without dying in teamfights.
His E should should have an interaction with his Q to make his poke more about combination attacks, instead of just another poke skill. If Galio lands his Q on a target champion, he can dash to that location instead of just throwing the wind. The E should have no cast time (Or at least not stop you from moving) when cast and have a small cast time for the dash to be able to react. The ultimate just needs to be made more practical. The ultimate should put stacks on you base on how long you're in the taunt radius (Not how many auto attacks were made) and automatically explode when the ult is cancelled or done to explode for the damage regardless of where the champion is when it ends. This stops the problem interactions with Tenacity and also the bad interaction with taking autos. If they had mercs and slow auto speed or far away as melee, you don't get hit much and there's no amp even though your ult caught a lot of people.
Ultimately, I hope someone at Riot see's this and puts a fire under the rework team's ass to churn ideas and get hype for Galio.
