Lets Talk about Bots w/ Riot (no not the COOP ones)

ProffessorChaos·6/5/2015, 7:39:29 PM·74 votes·3,627 views

Twisted Treeline and Dominion are both overrun by bots and we have yet to hear an official Riot response on the matter or what ideas they have for countering it. When both players on your team instalock with smite and say nothing and do nothing but act like bottom lane super minions all game it ruins the quality of the game.

For those of you who only play on the Rift, let me tell you why you should care. This problem originated in 2013 back in Dominion. And well no one cares much about that mode so nothing happened. Then it came to Twisted Treeline and is becoming almost a daily occurrence. Eventually the BOTS will invade the RIFT have to come to 5s if TT suffers the dominion fate and begins to have ridiculous que times during peak hours.

For example: My past 3 game queues 1 bot on each team, 2 bots on my team, then 1 bot on my team. It isn't even late night or non peak hours atm.

TLDR: Stop the bots from corrupting 5s by fixing the problem now in TT. Upvote for a Riot Response.

Post your BOT horror stories from today or possible solutions that you can think of below!

As much as I hate to admit it. UT I don't think Rito cares about those two game modes. Hardly any of the games population plays them (compared to SR)

I had a Dominion game some months ago where I was the only human player on either team.

It was surreal.

I felt so terrible one time i queued as a pre-made 3 and the enemy team was one person and 2 bots. I felt absolutely terrible that person was just begging us to win the game. There should be a reportable option for bots tbh.

Valrun6/6/2015, 9:59:39 AM3 votes

Out of about 20 3's games, I had 2 real players...

PikaCHU5676/6/2015, 1:10:09 PM3 votes

I was on TT and went Janna. I had 2 bot buddies and I was going against a Kayle and her 2 bot buddies. She won and honored me so this game didn't matter anymore. xD

Occams Raiser6/6/2015, 6:29:46 AM3 votes

I'm going to walk to the to top of a mountain and scream "NO ONE GIVES A @#$%! ABOUT TT AND DOMINION!" And by no one I mean not of enough Riot employees. LCS is Summoner's Rift. If it ain't on SR, @#$% it!.

This is the monster Riot made when they changed the way custom game IP and XP works. We told Riot about the problem then on the old forums, and they largely ignored us after an initial response claiming they were looking at the problem. Only thing I even know to do is open up a support ticket when you run into those things, and to be honest that is a horrible way to try to deal with it.

Just got finished with a game myself and experienced this... I didn't even realize they were bots until I came to the forums to see what's happening. If I want to play (literally) with 5 other bots, I would just start a custom game. As someone who primarily plays TT because of the time I have available, I'd rather wait in the queues until real people are there instead of this, or at least tell me ahead of time. And why no indication in the names that they're bots? And why do they play so incredibly bad? The last game I went top lane, cleared the turrets, inhibitors, and finished the game without going back and without seeing another champion while the 5 bots just went back an forth in the bottom lane.

I reported 5 accounts that were playing games together, they all had 100% lose chance and had 0 items in all of their games, 3 or 4 of those accounts have been sold on a website, and one of them has been bought by a relative of mine, (this is how i know about all of this) riot didnt do anything about it.

ScarletTsubaki6/6/2015, 6:12:03 PM2 votes

I've come across some bots recently. It isn't just in Dominion and Twisted Treeline as you've said; I've found some bots in ARAM and Summoner's Rift as well. I started to grow concerned because I'm starting to see more bots each passing day and now I've started to think about contacting Riot about this. After ending up in quite a bit of games with bots I've discovered some things about them

These are things I noticed:

  • They're almost always playing Champions from the weekly rotation
  • They don't talk in the chat at all
  • They can act like noobs
  • Sometimes they are in big clusters together (this happens in ARAM)

I placed that list so that you can know if you're going to be with or against bots in a match. However, I don't know any solutions for this. All I need to know is that Riot at least knows about this problem. And if not, they should

I'm trying to figure out... why?

I get gold farming bots in games like WoW where they can sell it for cash... but what on earth is the advantage of botting in League of Legends? There's no commerce or trade so accounts are pretty much worthless.

Maximum Zilean6/6/2015, 3:48:54 AM1 votes

Hopefuly with all the TT changes they have on the pbe, there will be a fix to this problem.

Who am I kidding? They won't do a thing about it... Same with dominion.

eSportBully6/6/2015, 5:16:55 AM1 votes

Bots are ruining the game for me. It has gotten really bad lvl 30's boting so it is not just contained to just lvling accounts.

jama6556/6/2015, 5:28:01 AM1 votes

One game i played had literally 4 bots 2 on my team 2 on the other it was literally just a 1v1 on TT lol

Extreme Troller6/6/2015, 7:11:22 AM1 votes

real problem is dominion is a so noob and fkêd game mode, where death mean absolutly nothing, that a poor bot can reach top ranking and be matched with real humans.

the only solution is to rework dominion, to make it more skillful.

KidKaiser6/6/2015, 7:17:52 AM1 votes

there was a playerbase. a HUGE playerbase dedicated to keeping dominion alive. cuz why else was there a draft mode?

but that thread is in the old forums. probably long lost into the internet nethers.

N0NAsian Asian6/6/2015, 9:23:55 AM1 votes

Riot needs to take ranked 3's off if they are not going to do anything to help us who actually try to practice I hate trying to get in some practice games and end up playing with or against bots

Byakuya Kuchiki6/6/2015, 12:07:32 PM1 votes

http://imgur.com/gallery/xvRdBt2/new bots arent that bad garen did the last hit on the nexus for me and the enemies always get cocky when they outnumber you

Snakezzy6/6/2015, 1:22:23 PM1 votes

I remember one day when I was a noob playing on summoners rift and there was this blitz who literally followed me the entire game. He was obviously a bot, but at the time, I didn't know it. When I tried to recall, he recalled. It was really annoying but good wthing it was just a normal. :P

The Ellimiist6/6/2015, 3:05:35 PM1 votes

These are the accounts you see for sale on websites, the thing is a lot of these bots actually do get banned. Maybe 1 in 20 bots make it to level 30 without getting banned, but when you're getting chinese to american conversion rate and can run 100's of bots through virtualization, it doesn't really matter if a lot of them get banned.

The other thing is for every game you see with 1-2 real players and rest are bots, there are a ton of other games that are 100% bots. Queueing accounts made at the same time, at the same time gives a high chance of them being matched together/against each other and a lower chance they will be reported and banned.

They would need to implement some sort of anti-cheat (which could also catch scripters fairly easily) rather than reactively ban botters/scripters.

Zenima6/6/2015, 3:34:22 PM1 votes

To be fair, if Riot shares how they're going to counter it, the bot makers can get a head start on a work around. If they just say they're working on it I'd be happy.

Origoris6/6/2015, 4:30:05 PM1 votes

Riot I cann't believe you are not saying anything about this.. Please I have brought so many people into this game and brag about how you guys "do thinks right". The fact that you are just ignoring this over and over again is sickening. At least say something. Explain why it is a tough problem to fix.. Give us SOME hope you care at all..

stevedoesmc6/6/2015, 4:59:27 PM1 votes

these are league fans we are talking about, they will not invade the rift nuff said

BLU Medic6/6/2015, 6:58:25 PM1 votes

They also invade lower level Coop VS AI games on Summoners Rift.

I had three bots feed a Ryze bot, while a level 10 first time Vel'Koz and a level 20-something first time me as Jayce had to 2v5. It's improved since I hit 30, but my grind from level 20 to level 30 in bot games was horrific.

A Miss Fortune6/6/2015, 7:16:15 PM1 votes

My sister is new to the game, but she does fairly well and actually has gotten fed by herself a handful of times. I thought that I would show her the Twisted Treeline and introduce her to that mode, I've played it a few times before but only have seen a bot once on each side's team.

The first game I played it with her the entire game was bots except us. If not, then I'm quite shocked at people going Cleanse-Smite Karma.

dandyangel6/6/2015, 7:53:04 PM1 votes

i once had a full team of bots vs a full team of real people worst game i ever played

Supp Hero6/6/2015, 7:53:46 PM1 votes

I see them in Summoner's Rift occasionally too, like 1/8 games or so I'll see at least one I suspect of being a bot. Usually no items and ghost heal (but not always) and you can tell just by their movement. The turret dives when no one is around, running away when there is no reason to, etc. seems like just an unskilled player, but if you watch them closely there's a predictable pattern of bots vs just new players.

I actually like Twisted Treeline a lot, if it had more ward options I'd play it more. But the lack of vision makes certain gank champions overpowered in that map.

Silents4296/6/2015, 9:39:18 PM1 votes

They have made statements on it, They redid the Refer a Friend program to discourage people from using bots, since they would gain a lot less from it. Remember those level 1 invitations we got at the beginning of the season? Yeah they don't happen anymore.

There is very little ways to catch bots, and no magical cure exists.

ProffessorChaos6/5/2015, 7:55:20 PM1 votes

And my last game just had 2 on the enemy team and this current one has one on the enemy team. The streak is at 5

Davy Crockett6/7/2015, 7:37:01 AM1 votes

Lost a PVE bot game due to a thresh that walked non stop from top lane to bot lane every time. it was terrible.

Byakuya Kuchiki6/5/2015, 7:57:11 PM1 votes

im just doing my best to find others who are playing TT then get them on my team so i can win the games more often speaking of which i added you so please accept and we can have 1 less possible bot

Downfall6/5/2015, 10:31:46 PM1 votes

The thing is though Rito cares so much about precious 5v5 that the problem will be stopped if it ever happens in 5v5. Because the majority of the community only plays 5s.

TaoistMaster6/6/2015, 12:30:29 AM1 votes

Riot's official stance?

something like.. don't do it. doing it is a perma ban.

that about it?

Catrian6/6/2015, 12:38:09 AM1 votes

I'd love seeing those bots removed for sure, but Riot's responses to handling them in the past have definitely been sketchy. The last attempt they made to stamp out those kinds of bots ended with custom games getting Exp and IP gains gutted with no compensation to the people who regularly played them to avoid the more toxic parts of the community(if they didn't have enough friends to fill 3 or 5 spots on TT and SR).It's also the reason why bots have now flooded dominion and twisted treeline sadly.I've seen quite a few in ARAM as well.

Penguin Eclipse6/6/2015, 12:42:47 AM1 votes

Bots are a real issue. But truthfully Riot doesn't care. If they cared they would let you report them. To this day the only way can report them is through sending a support ticket which probably just gets forwarded to the recycling bin.

I have a screen shot somewhere where I played a dominion made up of 9 bots + myself.

report jayg0d6/6/2015, 2:49:52 AM1 votes

Yo finally someone says shit about this, they always got angel in their name and shit

report jayg0d6/6/2015, 2:50:37 AM1 votes

everytime i play dominion or i mean TRY to play dominion or tree line im up against 9 bots with smite its weird as fuck

3TWarrior6/6/2015, 3:07:21 AM1 votes

people might start liking 3v3 because a lot of people are playing the hexakill game mode, so the bot players would get reported more often

I've seen a decline in their population, but they're still annoying as curse word or something

3v3 and dominion are my favorite game modes because they are fast and allow champs to reach full build faster, I mean, matches that last an hour at a time really wear on your nerves because you can't look away even for a few seconds without something going wrong

JChaosMaster6/6/2015, 3:13:28 AM1 votes

During the last worlds Bot were pretty swarming much in all mode but Ranked. Rift was just the last one completely effected by it. Most of the time they got brushed off as basic feeders. It wasn't until the new rift was fully open and ascended finished did the bots back off a little.

FYI I noticed the bots get intrcreasinly worst the closer to BIG tournaments the lcs gets

lDontLiftIcarry6/6/2015, 3:48:34 AM1 votes

haven't seen these bots. Any video proof? Idk want to see what they play and how they move and what spells are common among them etc. I dont do coop games with anyone besides my girlfriend otherwise i only do ranked mode.

Mind showing me what it looks like?
