If your mmr is higher than your rank, you'll face people higher rank than you, since matchmaking is based on mmr in order to keep things fair (as in, you should win approximately 50% of the time).

If your mmr is higher than your rank, you also get more LP for wins than you lose for losses, so you climb faster, and also climb even with an exactly 50% winrate.

If you were facing silvers as a gold on the other hand, you'd be gianing far less LP for your wins than you lose when you lose, so you could even have a >50% winrate and still be falling.

it's because Riot's ranked system isn't straight-forward (and I personally dislike it). You don't actually play silver games at a silver difficulty. You play silver games at a gold/plat difficulty, or wherever your mmr currently sits.

Your rank is essentially meaningless when it comes to matchmaking. It's not a level system where as you climb games get hard.

That's why you'll get plats in your silver games and silvers in your plat games, it's hella dumb
