Stat Icons on the New HUD

Tons of feedback about the new HUD is raining in and it'd possible we'll see some response and additional options in the next while.

I just wanted to touch on one specific pair of connected issues: the icons used to represent stats and their size. I get that they need to be compact but right now they're so small that it's difficult to make out what most of them are supposed to be. That brings up the other issue in that many of them don't really well convey what they're about, their size limiting their detail likely being probably part of the problem.

Attack Damage: I guess it's supposed to be an axe? Why not try for a simple sword, it's kind of universal symbol of physical damage in the language of symbols. That, and the fact that the most basic units of gold purchased AD in the game are item 1055 and item 1036.

Ability Power: It's a magic bolt...that looks like a solid blue snowball? Why not a fireball/flame (with red and orange) or a very simple spellcaster staff? A book like item 1052 might be hard to translate that small but a staff like item 3116 is still pretty clear.

Armor: A kite shield is pretty clear, for sure. A slightly larger icon might allow for refining the shape a bit.

Magic Resist: A buckler shield, I guess? The thing about magic is that you usually mitigate it with other magic (often depicted as runes like icon for Galio's passive) or as some kind of cloak, like item 1057.

Attack Speed: Adding speed lines to the weapon makes perfect sense, but as stated above, the fact that it's an axe makes that a lot less visible than a thin sword might.

Cooldown Reduction: This one's great, and hourglass is perfect. A circular clock would probably be harder to discern with icons so small but an hourglass is a very distinct shape and its meaning is unmistakable. If the other stat shows a fast weapon, the one about time must be CDR, it's a no brainer.

Attack Range: It's an arrow...that shows travel? What about a simple targeting crosshair? I know it's representative of ranged attacks (gun scopes) much more than melee attacks but it is a pretty well understood symbol for sighting a target and lining up and attack. There's also the option of a simple bow (similar to item 3035) as it's one of the simplest ranged weapons around.

Movement Speed: Is that...supposed to be a boot? Compared to some of the better examples in game (item 3111) , it really doesn't fit the shape or convey the idea that well.

Health Regen: No issue here, it's a medical cross and is the same colour as your health bar. The health bar tells you how much HP you have currently so the other value must be your regen over time, simple stuff.

Mana Regen: With the new HUD there's an icon that appears over your spells when you don't have enough mana, it's a little blue droplet (like from a item 2004) that sits atop a blue filter on the unavailable spell. Since mana isn't health, using a medical cross for it seems a bit odd when it's sitting right next to one that does indicate health. The droplet might make more sense in context of those two things.

Armor/MR Pen: These are pretty clear, the icon for each that's sundered about the middle. There are comments above about the specific icons but the broken line in them is very clear.

Lifesteal/Spell Vamp: Better icons for the attack types along with a slightly larger green health plus on the bottom right right corner of the icon (it's okay if it slightly overlaps the attack type icon to be more visible) would look cleaner and clearer at a glance.

Crit Chance: This one's not too bad but it's missing a second colour to it (like a little line orange spiking back out from the bottom right corner) to make it more distinct that something that's being hit is breaking. Alternatively, there's always the icon that appears on combat text when one scores a critical. You probably couldn't fit the whole thing in the icon box but even the left half of it (with a similar little core of another colour) might make it quickly recognizable. It's pretty jagged looking and you end up seeing it on another part of your UI in game.

Tenacity: This isn't the easiest concept to boil down to a tiny icon but I still think that thing really doesn't look like a boot. Even though something like a net or pair of chain links sells the idea of confinement, that concept is pretty closely related to the purpose of tenacity. Just a thought.

Someone's probably already posted something akin to this but I looked around with a search and wasn't seeing anything on the main page (that goes into this kind of detail) of any current HUD threads. Whoops if I missed it but whatever.

I don't expect a Red response, or really anyone to even noticed this ~5min after posting, but I felt like it was at least worth adding another tread to the pile of suggestions that will hopefully help with fine-tuning the new UI.
