The Importance of KDA

A large number of the players here have a Call of Duty mindset where they think KD is everything, and thats cool and all, but its not true. 15 CS ~ 1 Kill. If I am playing Mordekaiser and the enemy jungler is camping my lane hard and I finish the laning phase 0-2 and the enemy laner starts 2-0, did I lose my lane?

If you answered that question, chances are you are bronze/silver elo. It was a trick question, because there isn't enough information to reveal whether or not I did infact win my lane. Did I give up first blood? What was our creep scores? Who destroyed who's tower first? Did either of us roam successfully?

People don't take this stuff into account. Instead, they finish a 40 minute game with only 100 CS, gave up their tower, and they have only 4 assists while their team had 45 kills. Cool, you had 19 kills bro, too bad you were only part of half of the fights. Horrible.

K+A is an important statistic, however. It shows kill participation. What % of the teams kills were you a part of? This shows how helpful you are. However, I feel as though for top laners this isn't so big of a deal dependent upon the team's strategy. Ever have a game where your top lane won his lane hard and split-pushed like a boss all game? He didn't participate in the fights, but he did counter-jungle and push down the inhib on his own. And sure, he might have only 2-3 kill and possible an assist or 2, but he did have WELL over 200 farm at the 20 minutes mark? He outfarmed everyone in the game and that dude is still farming. Keep in mind, 15 CS~~ a kill. Sometimes, that guy is detrimental to his team, however sometimes that split-push strategy is awesome. "Shit we can't teamfight or push other lanes with that fuckin top laner taking our base."

KD or KDA doesn't tell the whole story. Just because you can rack up some awesome KDA doesn't make you a pro. In fact, what makes you a pro is the ability to master all aspects of the game. Anyone can play an assassin and get mass kills on people making dumbass mistakes, but who here can grab every CS in every minion wave 90%+ of the time during the laning phase? That is what makes you a badass. Knowing when to push makes you a badass. Knowing when to go for objectives makes you a badass.
