Esports is boring

When people say "look at how many different champs have been picked this Worlds", I don't get it. When Kai'sa is in 95% of games, and Ashe is in only one actual game (for example) it doesn't make any difference. The individual champ roster that's been picked could be huge, but when the same 15 champs get played in 95% of games, it doesn't really matter who the outliers are. That shit is BORING.

At this point, I go to VODs and pick a game I'm interested in watching, then skip to the pick/ban phase. If there's no unique champ picked, I just don't watch. The vast majority of games have the same roster, just switched up between teams. I honestly can't watch it, it's just the same shit over and over. I only ever watch a game that has a different champ in a role I find interesting (read: not ADCs. I can't think of a single pick in the bot lane that would make me interested in watching it. Just boring as shit)

Maybe I'm not an indicator of most people who watch worlds, but I just don't understand how a game that I love playing so much can be so drearily, drudgingly boring when played by professionals.

Yes leagues boring stale year old meta of staple marksmen support bot and same roles every single game is getting very old and boring. The champion pool in competitive is just so unbelievably tiny compared to how many champions are in the game.

I mean there are more champions than there are heroes in dota 2 and there is WAY less variety in this game. Which sucks because I can't get into playing dota 2 for some reason but everything besides how the game feels mechanically is so much better.

There was a comment on a thread from some dude saying the boards doesn't say "esports are boring".

And then this gets upvoted.

It's actually quite interesting compared to previous years - nowadays there are no farm all game, no kills games there. The sad thing is that the game is unplayable, because E-sports scene have to be somewhat dynamic. And you are still complaining. Go watch Sivir farming 1000 minions... That was e-sports at some point.

What? Worlds is intense as hell. So many hype moments.

Especially IG's recent upset. It was so tense.

I don't think you find it boring because of the picks, but instead, you don't have a team to root for.

I'm a diehard C9 fan.....but after their summer season roster shakeup, and dropping into last place of all things, I didn't really want to watch the LCS, because my team just wasn't performing. This not only affected me wanting to watch the LCS, but also wanting to play the game in general. I lost quite a bit of motivation to play the game, and moved on to try other games, such as Overwatch, and Divinity Original Sin 2.

Fast forward a few months of not following the LCS, I find out that my team, Cloud 9, are in the semi-finals against TSM.....a team I have been extremely critical of. I decided to watch it.

Only to see my team completely kick TSM's ass in an easy 3-0 sweep.

Ever since then, my love for the LCS has been reinvigorated. My team, as usual, is the only hope for NA for worlds, and this year, there is a real chance that they move to the semi-finals. While watching this, I also learned that my team went from last place, and went on an 8 game win streak to get to where I found them again in the semi-finals.

I don't care about the picks, or the champs.....I care about my team going forward.

Does this mean I'll quit watching if my team gets kicked out? Actually.....no. When you watch worlds, it kind of becomes a West vs East mentality, and you not only root for your team, but also your region, and your sister region. And this is especially true this year, because this is potentially the first time we see Korea not even in the semi finals (save for season 1....which doesn't really count). It WILL be boring if we see another Korea vs LPL (we WONT see a Korea vs Korea this year), and that's a finals I may not watch......because there is no one I want to root for.

So....that's my advice to you to enjoying esports. Find a team you like, and root for them until the end. You'll find yourself enjoying esports overall alot more, and find other teams that aren't your own to root for, especially in international events, such as worlds.
