The new supp items have created a more dull role as support. No longer can you provide shields, movement speed or slows with the starting support items when finished. I main as support s8 and I was climbing steadily. It's made it a bit harder to climb because you have less impact early game. Every player is different and I understand that. But some are more aggressive and want to be more involved throughout the map/game.
Oh no, now we have to rely on the slows and shields from our basic abilities.
I mean I’m having no problem with the support items and I’ve climbed from gold 5 to plat 5 in 3 weeks.
I enjoy the new support items because I don’t need to rush ss anymore. Now it feels like builds can be diverse and adapt to what’s going on in the game. Maybe you just need to adapt as well.
I'm gonna have to agree with the other commenters; while I do miss the old actives and passives of the support items, not having to invest in a sightstone gives supports a lot more gold early game to get pinks and get into their build faster. It should also help bring damage supports back into the meta, since they aren't losing that 800 gold to sightstone, and instead using it for early damage. I will say that I'd like to see the old item passives again- frost queen's speed boost, relic's shield, etc.
Stop crying, supports were OP and still are for how little risk their role carries.
