The problem with mid lane diversity.

I don't play mid lane often, but that won't stop me from voicing my unranked scrub opinion. Please correct me on my mistakes.

Anyway, mid lane is home to mainly assassins and mages (with the occasional ADC like or even ). Already this is a problem because one class already heavily counters the other. But what counters assassins?

Well if we look at the triangle of balance, tank counters burst. Assassins are mainly burst champions, so they are naturally weak towards tanks in the fact that they can't snowball off them as easily.

Tanks, as many are well aware, are common in top, jungle, and bot lane (as a support). They do not frequent mid lane unless you are or (And Gragas is a better jungler. He's also not a primary tank, but he has enough CC and durability that I see him pulling off the tank role effectively). This means assassins are laning without their natural predator to stop them (unless you are or anyone that can be very durable and has enough CC to make the opponent regret diving them).

So the bigger question: **Does this need fixing and how do we fix this? **

Originally I thought the way to fix this was to bring us more mid lane tanks. But the counter to tanks is DPS and while we do have some DPS mages like and , the most common form of DPS is marksmen. And I think a lot of us are tired of seeing mid lane marksmen (no offense to marksmen mains).

Do we need to allow mages to be tankier? Considering how the juggernaut builds on and worked out, I'm not sure it would be a healthy idea to allow someone to build heavy defensive stats and then nuke you from a distance (I don't want to see tank or thank you).

Could MR items be at fault? As a and player, I love because it gives me MR and damage stats that my abilities scale off of. But this item is great on any AD champ laning against a mage, and it doesn't really feel like a hindrance to your power spike if you rush it. Should this item be nerfed, or should mages get more MR pen items like and ?
