How does this mmr reset work?

Cause If i'm put at g2 after placements, why am I playing against mid+ plats already and the occasional diamond 5s... Might as well start me where I left off last season....Even played with the same plats during placements wtf. So now I have to play against my own elo to get out of gold instead of working towards diamond? lol zZzz
