Rectangle Table Discussion (My Takeaway and Thoughts on Dynamic Queue)
As someone that never got the chance to play ranked under the old solo queue system here are some of my thoughts about how the Dynamic Queue works:
One of the problems with Dynamic Queue (one which they stated in the discussion) is that, the longer you sit in queue, the less the system cares about giving you an even match. Another problem is, if you do happen to be solo, and you end up with a group of 3 or 4, the opponents will have higher MMR because Riot wrote the system to assume that just because the people you are matched with are grouped together they will play at the level of SKT1, and place you against higher MMR opponents. Then guess what, those people you are grouped with aren't SKT1 and they aren't on coms, and they aren't that good, so you get smashed. Another issue with placing a solo queue person with a premade group, is that solo person often gets outvoted by said group. It happens when my friends and I group. We might as well not even be playing with that other person because, they aren't with us. Also, Riot stated that if they had people just pick one role there would be an overflow in certain roles, that is another problem not related to Dynamic Queue, and has to do with role appeal. Instead of fixing that issue, they try to implement a queue that band aids said issue.
Now for the good things about Dynamic Queue:
I get to select a couple of roles I like to play, and I am guaranteed to get one of them. Sure some queue times may be longer depending on what role I pick, but I'm ok with that because I'd rather not fight over a role or have someone troll pick or flame.
EDIT: Possible fixes: Don't place people against significantly higher MMR opponents just because they are grouped. Just, don't. Perhaps an average of all the players on a team would suffice. I.E. Don't assume things about the players because they are grouped, treat the matchmaking as if everyone was still solo. Could also lower the range of which ranked tiers are allowed to play each other.
