I was looking at some stuff about Group Theory
and found that someone had mathematically worked out the fairest system possible provided that all elements are unique and orderable.
That scheme starts with: AB then reverses this group for the second iteration ABBA then reverses it again ABBABAAB and again ABBABAABBAABABBA and so on fractally.
I was thinking that this could be applied to draft pick and bans. There are 16 rounds after all. Here's how it would work:
T1 ban T2 ban T2 ban T1 ban T2 ban T1 ban T1 pick T2 pick T2 pick T1 Pick T1 pick T2 pick T1 pick T2 pick T2 pick T1 pick
There are some weaknesses because no system is perfect, but not because the picking is inherently unfair by some measure. The weakness would come from getting used to the new draft order AND whether bans or picks are equal/unequal in value to players. We get new systems all the time, so I think the first is fine so long as there is a UI element in the draft interface that details whose turn it is when.
However, I'd like to ask you guys, do consider Bans to be more valuable than picks, vice-versa, or equal in importance?
Ultimately, would you rather have last ban or first pick?
