Discussion on potential Solution to the insane damage creep
So I was thinking about why the game feels like everything does so much damage, even tanks. Every game kinda just feels like a mess and seems like a race to see which team can snowball first. Obviously the new rune system is overloaded and adc itemization is too cheap but I think a big issue now is that everyone basically goes into the game with way less defensive stats than before. Basically no one takes the resolve tree as a secondary because the defensive gains aren't enough to warrant the loss in dps with the game in its current state. Before, everyone would go in with armor runes, magic resist runes, flat hp, scaling hp, or some mix of them all depending on matchups. Additionally, masteries also provided a tree with good defensive stats that would give flat hp, hp rengen, resistances etc. Now we have none of that especially since the resolve tree is not worth the loss in damage because the defensive stats don't save you or give a decent enough lane advantage. So maybe a solution would be to add a third rune slot called tertiary focused solely on defensive options. Have only 2 runes allowed in this slot like with secondaries. Move the armor and magic resist and overgrowth runes over to here. And provide some new runes for this tree from the old system such as unyielding, explorer, tough skin, and recovery.
