"Negative Attitude" report option being abused...please fix

Currently the "negative attitude" option for reporting someone is being abused left and right. Several occasions now I have tried to give friendly, helpful advice to a struggling player on my team, only to be met with reactions similar to "STFU noob."

The game ends and the player who wasn't able to take any constructive criticism reports me for "negative attitude." This is compounded in games where he or she has a friend and they both report you.

The problem is this...There seems to be absolutely ZERO oversight on these reports. Getting reported just 3 times in two days seems to earn you a chat ban, and it happens instantly. There is no way the chat logs are even being looked through to determine the validity of their claim.

So you are left with two horrible options until this is fixed:

  1. Try to help struggling players with advice at the risk they blow up and report you... or
  2. Don't try to help, and suffer a horrible game experience.

Anyone else having similar issues?

(As an example these are the types of issues I commonly run across:

  1. Player's overextending into enemy territory without wards or back up, and failing to fall back when you notify them the enemy team is missing, and likely incoming. (advise given: Please don't cross into enemy territory without wards or backup)

  2. Tunnel Vision , over chasing, leading to death. (Advice given: If they run from you, let them run and go for an objective, chasing too far and you're likely to get pulled into a trap. Objectives are more important than kills)

  3. Getting outplayed in their lane (advice given: try to let your lane get pushed and farm under tower till someone can help you. Don't give them an opportunity to fight you, or ask for a lane switch)

None of these seem like unreasonable or hostile suggestions, yet about 7 out of 10 times I am met with. STFU or I'll feed, and subsequently reported. It boggles my mind.

I have had no such issues. If someone's report is false, their reports lose validity to the system.

I point out better plays people could have made, or ask them to stop making the same mistake, fairly regularly. I make sure to be constructive about it, and I also report people who get snappy in response to what I feel is a reasonable request (ie; Hey darius, ryze has killed you 4 times, you might want a hexdrinker instead of a BT right now). I've never even gotten a warning, let alone a restriction.

If you're being reported so much that people the automated system is catching you, try toning down the suggestions maybe. It is possible to be to direct and too helpful. Even though it doesn't make sense, if it is upsetting other players enough you're in the top whatever percentile of reports, then its on you to adjust some.

Sometimes I will get the message after the game "You've been reported for verbal harrassment blah blah" even though I literally had not typed a single thing at all during the game. This has happened to me at least 3 times. It's absolutely nuts.

In most cases, it is probably just better for you to be quiet and not talk. Not everyone needs or WANTS to be criticized by someone they are most likely ONLY ever going to run into once, so there is no reason for you to possibly "ruin" someones one time playing with them. The only time you should offer advice is if they ASK for it. Then you know they want your help and you can offer as much as you want, but unless this happens it is usually best to just not talk. The only other time it can be "acceptable" to question something is if they make an INCREDIBLY questionable play that doesn't pan out well. Like why did they dive into the enemy team 4v5 DESPITE the fact that you said you were on your way and to hold off. Besides things like this, just play and worry about yourself because intruding on other peoples enjoying DESPITE your "kind" or "noble" intentions isn't usually liked or well received.

I often try to give helpful advice, as well. It's often met with caustic attitudes, but I've never been chat banned. I'd be interested to see exactly what you wrote to those players; they may not have interpreted it as friendly or helpful. You have to be very careful in text communication.

Riot looks over the stuff, so if you were genuinely trying to help, you shouldn't worry about being reported. I usually save Negative Attitude for people who go "FF@20" I might even put those guys on assisting enemy team if they pull up the surrender vote every 5 minutes.

I have different issues...

  1. I'll be in mid lane and be trying to farm and then it happens. I get ganked by the jungler. Then I go back, and I farm for a while and wait by the tower. I'll then pick up courage and start moving towards the middle of mid lane and then, another gank happens. I'll then start pinging for help and my jungler either does one of three things: a. The person will not come. b. The person comes but gets side-tracked by a buff. c. The person comes mid but instead of waiting for me to teleport there, they initiate and possibly die.
  2. With all the ganks, whether it be top, mid, or bot; i'll be the one to be called "noob player". They also ask for a report on me. When I jungle, I do not focus on objectives but the ganks themselves. If I initiate enough, and do not take CS from lane, then I'm doing a good job right there. I either: a. Scare off the opponent. b. Secure a kill
  3. When I am supporting, I have to deal with many different ADC's. Some of which who are just trying out a new character. Which is fine, but if they do bad and I have to sacrifice myself to try and save them... Now, I once went as Taric and had a Twitch ADC who continually asked for a heal. I healed him and then not 2 seconds later asked for another. I told him Taric's heals took longer on cool down and he called me a "noob" and asked for them to report me.

These happen strangely a lot to me. Funny how I don't feel very affected by it anymore. Possibly because of the constant harass and the fact that decent people do show up from time to time.

New tribunal is coming in Season 5, and it's gonna be heavily improved, so don't fret, the occurrence of this will decrease. But for now, try to give positive reinforcement, like "Damn, that was close," "Eh, at least we tried," and "Ugh, that almost worked" as cheesy as they sound before criticism (I think that would have worked better if _____.). Normally helps people understand what you're saying better.
