Mainers vs Jack of all trades

Wondering, as I can play pretty much anyone, your guys thoughts on maining a role/champ and being average at everyone, clearing being average at everyone is better for soloQ but how much better are mainers vs {Playallers}? Heres my view ; Mainers get really good at a champ, if their champ gets banned they have no practiced champs Playallers get to practice at all champs, and will know lots of tricks for all champions, and how to beat them if faced with them Mainers, however get extremely good at a champ and if its a rare champ like vik or rammy or something, thats gg for enemy team unless they know how to play against them.... which playallers would know how to.... Also with the new "frequently played thingie, who do i "frequently play"? When you play just about everything :_:

I find a mix of both is the best

If you get your best lane, you know, good for your team and all that. If you dont end up getting the lane you wanted, you could still play other lanes to a good degree but not as good as your main lane.

I think one champ mains have a better chance of winning, at least their lane. If you play the same champ 500-1000+ times, then you'll learn how to beat or at least deal with any lane opponent and how to play differently against certain comps.

Also, I think most one champ mains still have a lot of games played on many other champs.

Personally, I think the biggest advantage goes to playallers who then transition into maining a champion. That's kind of the path which I'm going for at the moment, trying out a wide variety of champions and then selecting 1-3 for each role to focus on. I don't think maining a single champion is the way to go, as it can bite you in the ass hard. But maintaining the same degree of excellence in 2-3 champions as someone who mains just one champion is doable, and it can even be an advantage if you play roles which have different focuses/different types of champions so that you can better predict what your teammates will do.

Also, with the "frequently play" you can check by hovering over your own icon in your friends list. However, there is a "random" option for people like you and I.

The argument to main a champion first and then play random champions is presented by phylol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7tozC65cKk

I think my "main" is nasus top... I can pretty much beat any other champ top with him... although I find his playstyle kinda boring.... also besides, you rarely get the place u want unless its duo bot or your first pick :_: which is why I find maining champs kinda hard to do

It's best to have a combination IMO. At least have played every champion a few times so you know what their abilities do and kinda what they're cooldowns are and just overall what someone else playing them is likely going to be trying to do. And you'll know when they're really weak as their essential ability is on cooldown and when to take advantage of it since they can hardly do anything.

But it really does help to have a few champions you're really good with. You'll know how to play every opponent that you face in your lane remotely often, and know how to make lots of trades where you come out ahead. And you'll know their abilities so well that they'll likely very rarely be able to kill you anymore. And you'll just be overall a lot better.

Pick a preferred role, but also practice at least 2 other roles as well, so you have something to fall back on if you can't get your favorite. In each role you play, learn to play a minimum of 3 champions at least decently.

For example: I strongly prefer to play support, but I'm also willing to play jungle and mid if I can't do that (but for heaven's sake, never let me play ADC). I can play Janna, Lulu, Braum, Nami, and Thresh, with a strong focus on Janna and Lulu. If I go jungle, I'll play Zac, Nautilus, Sion, or maybe Sejuani. For mid, I'll pick Orianna, Ziggs, Kennen, or Ahri.

Despite having strong preferences, I've still played every single champion often enough to at least know what they're capable of. If at all possible, try to expand your knowledge of the game whenever you can.

I may not be the best at my secondary roles, but I'm at least consistent enough to hold my own and stay roughly even with my opponent. I play for the teamfights anyway, so all I have to do is survive laning phase and I'm usually fine.
