Getting Assists

Could it be possible for somewhere in the near future for people that take damage / die to a champ that dies to get an assist for killing the champ. Just reading that top line I'm a bit confused. So what I mean is if you were walking up to someone like with your 2 or more of your team mates but she wipes out you and one of your team members but dies to the third. Could you and the team member that died get some sort of assist for somewhat keeping occupied long enough for team member number 2 to kill her?

The thought comes up every now and then. Mainly when some highly mobile champ dodges everything of mine but in turn uses everything to kill me then dies to my team member and I don't get anything from it.

I remember ending a game with a kda of 0/9/0 as a support. Mainly tanking a bunch of skillshots dying and then having the adc get like a double kill because the ones that killed me have nothing to stop the adc. Could I at least get some recognition instead of having my top laner proclaim that "My support is shit".
