So why is Ryze so bad?

I for one am rather confused on the state of Ryze. People say he is bad due cause he skill takes so there is the Azir problem where he is good in high elo and bad in low elo. People say he is an unbalanced faceroll champion some people say he is worthless all that,i for one love playing the "bad" champions Ryze Azir Skarner Mordekaiser Ezreal be it due to their play style or certain mechanics they have. like morde ult. was getting back into ryze,as I really like the ability's you have to combo,though I don't think I faced a real mid laner with him yet. Jinx Alistar even when I wasn't fed,i had high CS due to his E and Q destroying minion waves. even 1v3ing a few times. and easily 1v2ing I really enjoy Ryze but why he is bad I currently am not aware of. he has weaknesses though a full on "bad" part of him that makes him full on horrible I am unaware of. people say low win rate but you have to remember, you have to combo all his stuff, QEQWQEQ all that. and he is marked as a 450 IP champion so he is one new players are likely to get. that could be why his total win rate is bad but idk of high elo

The problem with Ryze is that Riot has been unable to balance him in pro and casual play. If he is "balanced" in casual play he is beyond broken in competitive. So the only real option is to nerf him into the ground like they have done after every one of his reworks. He has a great character and fills a niche that many players like but I don't think Riot has succeeded with any of his reworks.

Even at high ELO, Ryze is still pretty bad.

He's only really good at professional level, where his snapcast root can be most taken advantage of by an organized team, and his ult can be used for more than an escape or solo gank tool.

The problem is that if he can deal solid enough damage on his own for solo queue, he becomes a monster with the backing of an organized team.

I still think his current kit is salvagable though, and needs tuning that has much more impact for casual players than for profesionals, which means selfish additions for his kit. The recent +40% AP ratio on his W is a good example, where it adds damage to his Q W Q E Q combo while not impacting much for pro play's more root-focused play.

Some other changes I think could make for ease-of-use and self-sufficience without piling on top of his busted team synergies:

Overload (Q) Shield improved during laning phase, increase changed from level to rank Fully charged Rune shield amount:~~ 60 +5 per level (65 at level 1, 150 at level 18)~~ -> 80 +10 per Overload rank (90 at rank 1, 140 at rank 6)

Rune Prison (W) Flux Root duration reduced, cooldown reduced during laning phase, mana damage scaling up Flux-empowered Root Duration: 2 s -> 1.5 s Cooldown 13/12/11/10/9 s -> 11/10.5/10/9.5/9 s Mana damage scaling 1% -> 3%

Spell Flux (E) Change to allow easier last-hitting while still maintaining some level of his insane waveclear, especially for low-level play Flux transfers to all near-by enemies when its owner dies from one of Ryze's abilities -> Flux transfers to a single near-by unmarked enemy when its owner dies by any means

Realm Warm (R) Bonus Resistances when channeling, making it better for the retreat uses it finds in casual play without impacting team ganks. NEW: When holding R to target, the gameplay display zooms out to show its targeting range (This should be a QoL change to many Ullts) NEW: Ryze gains bonus armor and magic resist throughout Realm Warp's channel as long as he remains in its starting location Bonus Armor and Magic Resist: 20/40 at rank 1/2 Cooldown: 120 s at both ranks -> 120/110 s NEW: Upon reaching level 16, if Realm Warp is at rank 2, its cooldown is reduced to 100s
