Off-meta can sometimes be nice
Near the end of S8, I reached level 30(reached it on Nov. 12). However, when I played my provisionals, I chose champs that were supposedly "meta" and "good".I'm sure they are meta, as Riot nerfed them over the last few patches. I went Kai'Sa bot 4 times and Akali mid 5 times. I lost them all. Now, you might be saying I'm just not good at these champs, but Mastery 4 should prove that I'm at least good enough to maintain a reasonable KDA and not lose lane. Then I played Karthus mid with a dedicated Predator + Celerity build on my second to last provisional. My KDA ended up being 24/2/13. We won that game with all off-meta champs. We had a Jarvan top, Karthus mid(me), Kindred jungle, Ivern Support, and Kalista bot. I don't know what my team was thinking when we started, but by the end I knew one thing: off-meta champs can be good. You do not have to play meta champs. Karthus has a <1% use rate, while Kai'Sa has a 13% use rate and Akali is banned like 90% of the time. Don't be discouraged when your team flames you for picking off-meta champs. Show them it can work, because it does.
