"It's Preseason!", New champions and its effect on ranked.
Here I am, trying to better my MMR if only by a little bit before 2019.
But to be met with the, "It's preseason." The Story: We all have our champs picked out, I spot a Neeko. Usually, I don't mind what people play because that's their champion. However, when it comes to newly released champions, that's an entirely different matter. As no one has her down pact yet and two) I checked his match history and it was terrible. Accordingly, I saved myself the trouble, but the following ensued:
Individual C joined the lobby
Individual A joined the lobby
Individual B joined the lobby
Individual A: why
Individual A: why
Individual C: why what
Individual A: he fucking baned my champ
Kriskep!n: 3/7/22
Kriskep!n: 3/12/10
Individual C: which one?
Kriskep!n: also new champ
Kriskep!n: in rank
Kriskep!n: nah fam.
Individual A: its fucking preseason
Kriskep!n: and?
Kriskep!n: I'd like to increase my mmr.
Individual A: you tool
Individual A: oh?
Individual A: would you
Individual A: ok
Individual A: let me help
Individual C: don't forget there are 3 other people in this game
Individual C: don't screw them because he banned yuor pick
Individual A
Individual B: did he ban yur champ on purpose?
Individual A: what ever
Individual A: yes
Individual A: and you chose to start shit
Individual B: so i dont mind you trolling him

While the 3/7/22 was in Nexus Blitz, it did not give me any confidence whatsoever in Individual A's ability to play Neeko. The 3/12 was from a ranked. Individual A decided to skip support and come into my lane as Annie with a Doran's ring and attempt to steal my cs and ended the game as 2/13, without intentionally feeding and Individual B who enforced Individual A's behavior ended the game as 2/11 despite having a free jungle and soon spammed the FF vote. Annie spams the chat gleefully, "I'm just trying to help my buddy get MMR", while our Jhin got demoted.
This should have been done so long ago: 1. Prevent new champions from entering ranked no matter what stage the game is in, until the week after the new champ has been added to the free rotation. That way two groups can play her for a while:
- The people who can afford to buy new champions
- The people who wait till free rotation
For those who agree with Individual B's thinking, "But you deserved it, you banned their champ!" Let me ask you this, would you knowingly allow a player to play a:
-
A champion they have consistently gone 3/15 with into your rank?
-
A champion they have only two games on which translates into no real experience?
For Preseason Purposes, Riot needs to enforce the idea of ranked is meant to be competitive/serious, as players want to advance and present their skill while climbing. I'm not saying take out the factor of fun, it's primary at its core a game, you should have fun. But wherein lies the fun when you have people like this, who troll build, after seeing it on YouTube and take the experimentation phase, into a ranked. Where is the fun when people first time champions into a ranked?
While of course, these are minor/few cases, however, in order to increase the enjoyment of the game, Riot should create a system where it clearly defines the idea of Ranked for its competitive/serious nature in order to better mentally discipline players.
