Support Talk Week 2. Meta and Off Meta Champs
Hey everyone back again after a long camping trip lol. IRL to scurry right? This week i'd like to focus on meta and off meta champs, and the fact that it is okay to play off meta. Also a little side note to all non support players that just because a support picks something odd, they've probably have been playing it for awhile!
The current meta seems like we are still stuck in the ap ranged supports area, even with the nerf to Zyra i feel she is still one of the best supports on the market. Karma is making some headway as a great support as well as zilean and nami. Thresh is still currently the top picked support based off stats found on op.gg but i feel this may be spiked due to the new skin, although he does have a fantastic kit, but is more team oriented and depends highly on the fact your team will follow you up. This is why we see more blitzcrank than we do thresh. Janna is good as always, we see her with the second highest winrate and pickrate. Leona actually has the highest winrate right now which actually surprises me a bit, but she is a very straightfoward wombo combo and very good into the squishy ap's like zyra nami and zilean. She also pairs very well with the most picked and highest winrate adc, Jhin. The root stun into another snare allows jhin to easily get off all four shots which either kills or sets up the ult for him.
Now for the off meta champs. This really doesnt have a limit of what champ you want to play, i for example was an ap ezreal support main. I feel the most usable off meta champs would probably still be considered meta, im talking about brand, kennen, vel'koz. All three contain good poke and CC. Brand has the highest mana costs of the three with kennen obviously using energy. These champs heavily rely on hitting your skills and not getting picked off level two by an alistar or leona all in.
The sidenote is something i feel probably all roles get. Just because someone is playing an off meta champ or a champ that is usually seen in another lane somewhere else, dont rage at them. If they die, dont rage at them and blame the pick choice. Especially if this isn't a ranked game, give them a break, they are probably trying to practice just like everyone else. So if you have a lux support take a kill, dont afk!\
Hope this is helpful! If anyone wants to help write these message me either in game or at https://www.facebook.com/SupportTalk/
