League of Legends is helping the Chinese government oppress its citizens

I have loved playing LoL for years now, but I can no long spend money that I know will go to killing free speech and hurting others. What TENCENT is help China do is sick. I hope Riot can explain its actions allowing such a to buy it.

Riot is not responsible for things their parent company does. Try using your brain please.

Is no one bothering to fact check through quick google searches? Just typing in "Sesame Credit" will let you know this is pushed by Alibaba, Tencent's competitor...

Some people are claiming "Tencent has shares in Alibaba!" but if that was the case I wouldn't be seeing reports that Tencent spent a billion dollars to compete with/challenge them.

this is not actually oppressing anything, one that understands the algorythm can easily get points to keep up appearances and still freely support any resistance movment he likes. It sort of makes those things easier actually...in our beloved "democrazy" you´re only knowing that you are constantly surveilled, but as you have no idea how the system exactly works (though recent events (#paris) show that apparently the system doesn´t even know that itself...) you rather choose to ignore it than to feel "oppressed". Edward Snowden really ruined his existence for nothing much it seems.

gods, people! learn to think for yourself.

This thread will get deleted like the others before it.

Welp.

That's terrifying.

Does Riot have any way to reacquire a majority stake in their company and tell Tencent where they can shove their destopian bullshit?

Because if they did, I would be buying RP monthly for the rest of League's existence.

I'm honestly in disbelief right now... I am not one to care about politics, or any rights for that matter. I'm the kind of person where if it doesn't directly effect me my wife or kids then idc.

But this is insane. It's only a matter of time before America follows suit and takes up this system as well...

It's more that TENCENT is a business and most businesses would gladly accept an offer as big as that one likely is. I mean they're basically working for the Chinese government. I don't think they're wringing their hands at the idea of socially stigmatizing independent thought. I think they just want to make money.

That said, yeah.... it's scary. I brought this vid up in a different thread about TENCENT. If an idea like this catches on... god help us all. I'm more worried about that than that the video game I play is owned by a company that puts money over morals. MOST companies do that.

For starters, the video itself talks about how it's similar to a credit score. Why does China care so much about people talking bad about the stock market. Because a huge portion of their investors are young and rash; they quickly run to pull out their stocks the second the hear bad news. Worse, these young traders borrow money so they are scared to lose it, they want the stock market to be risk free and when they hear it's bad they run to get it because it was not the money they actually were able to lose

Anyways, while it sounds stupid, it really is not all that crazy. Criminal record is almost the same

Other fun facts. Tencent regularly bullies Korean lan centers into choosing between Dota 2 and League by threatening to block their access to the game if Korean centers carry dota.

Yet Dota continues to gain traction in SK.
