Increasing Ban Limit in Champ Select with a different approach...

Six bans has been the standard number of bans for years now, and it was implemented back when League had a low number of champions. Fast forward to Season 5 and now we have close to 130 champions, with a lot of them played on a regular basis. Six bans just isn't enough anymore, and League keeps growing -- we keep getting new champions. I think this change would bring diversity to the ban phase and allow everyone to be happy during the Pick and Ban phase:

Increase the ban count to 10 bans, one ban per person or increase the ban count to a total of eight bans, with the same standard way we have now.

What does everything think? Let's have a discussion.

10 bans is bit much 8 is right on track, additionally i would propose disabling all recently released and updated champions till they have been balanced (like Dota captains draft)

I like the sound of 8 more than 10, maybe when they hit 200 or 250 champions it should be upped to 1 per person.

I hate how much one person can influence champ select right now. One ban per person would be such an improvement.

I think 10 bans is excessive, so I propose a solution that's a happy medium. 8 Bans: four people get a ban, one person doesn't. That person is team captain (first in draft order). This means they get the role of their choice.

Let's look at why bans are necessary for the game. We don't need to get rid of 5% of the roster, what we use them for is:

  1. Ban things that counter us
  2. Ban whatever is currently overpowered
  3. Ban things that you don't want to go against if someone on your team feeds them

The first is for high-end play (unless you're that top laner that just bans 3 of your counters and the enemy team ends up banning your champ in response). The second lets us deal with stupid things like 4.20 WW (remember in season 3 when Kass was banned every single game?). The third is for getting out of low elo, because everyone else who is trying to get out wants Riven/Kata.

Having more champs doesn't necessarily mean we need more bans to do any of that. On the other hand, more bans could make it easier to do those things (just ban Thresh Leo Braum Janna Sona and boom nobody knows how to support anymore)

The poll doesn't have an option for "change nothing", so it is biased.

I chose the first option but still.

10 total bans is way too much imo. If there was another way to have everyone a choice, I'd totally dig it. But in this case, 10 bans would be too much imo. It would be good for eSports because they are always over the same 10 champs, but for lower elo, people should have to learn how to play around strong picks.

I like 10 bans only because I think it's fair that each person should have a chance to ban someone they hate laning or playing against. In solo queue especially, I don't want a team captain to ban his 3 least-favorites if I intend to pick someone who can easily handle them, especially because who gets to be team captain is random and they (usually) get to claim their lane first.
