Can Placement Matches Just Be Removed From New Accounts?
There seriously is no point in trying to "figure out" what MMR a player is.
There are only 2 types of players:
- Those who have played before and,
- Those who have not played before.
Just start players at Bronze V and give them some type of "LP Boost" (on top of the normal LP) for winning games since they have never been placed before. Once they lose a certain number of games in a period of time, or reach Gold I, remove the LP Boost. Players who truly are new, won't be able to climb, and thus won't ever get matched where they do not belong. Players who aren't in the ELO they belong at, will climb more quickly and won't stay in those tiers for long either.
Personally, this is SUCH a better way to handle things than to gamble innocent players LP on new accounts who could either be a smurf in disguise, or the worst bronze garbage you've ever seen. You won't be able to prevent the smurfs, but at least you'll keep players who don't belong in certain games from feeding their asses off and making everyone else's lives difficult.
