Big Brother is Watching
While there are certainly many upsides to the aggregation and analysis of metadata, there are also some downsides.
How do you inform your players that their information is being recorded, run though statistical analysis, and interpreted? Do your players know that the information you collect is being used for cognitive psychology experiments? Do you believe that you should be obligated to explicitly disclose the fact that this information being used for behavioral experimentation? Do you believe in informed consent? Do you believe that you could/should be more overt in disclosing the fact that Riot Games reserves the right to manipulate this data in any way shape or form and sell it to any third party client? Do you believe that it is ethical to collect data on a population to whom you are marketing with little to no disclosure on your website other than implicit references to data collection in the User Agreement? Do you believe that it is ethical to market to such a young age group while running statistical analysis on their information knowing they have likely no hope of understanding the vernacular used in your rights agreement or privacy policy? What percentage of your users do you believe actually is aware that their information is being collected, recorded, analyzed, and sold to third parties?
It would appear there is no discussion board dedicated to the representation of customers, or dedicated to raising ethical concerns about the incorporation or how its actions may affect the experience of it's customers in a more serious context.
I am genuinely curious to know the answers to each of these questions.
