AP On-Hit Fizz in The Jungle is Actually a Thing ( Guide )
Tried some new builds on different champions over the last few days, including Tiger Udyr with a kind of AD caster-ish build ( which is pretty awesome too btw, great alternative to Runic Echoes Udyr or Sated Phoenixdyr ) but I gotta say, AP On-Hit Fizz was insane.
Back in the day when they nerfed the base damages of his on-hit they also increased the AP ratio of it, supposedly to make AP Caster Assassin Fizz a better pick and nerf AD-Offtank On-Hit Fizz. But when I compared it to the On-Hit spells of Kayle and Teemo it occured to me that all of their on-hits ( Kayle's Righteos Fury, Teemo's Toxic Shot ) have the same ratio and base damage as Fizz' W.
This means that Fizz'autohits will not only deal as much damage as Kayle's, they also have a lot of amplifiers and tools on them to keep you autohitting. His insane mobility makes him able to stick on his opponent to continously get autos off. The extra percentage damage is nice aswell even though you are going to mainly focus on the active portion of it. The Q also procs on hits and is an autohit reset, which is pretty juicy aswell. His Ult will also amplify all of the magic on-hit damage you deal.
When it comes to the build, you will have to rush Devourer with Challenging smite for dueling. I pick Ionian boots after because as everyone knows, CDR is an insane stat on Fizz, even more so because you want to keep your W permanently active. Then you build Nashor's because it gives everything you want - extra on-hit that scales with AP, even more AP,20% CDR and 50% attack speed. If you are ahead you build Guinsoo's after to get even more On-Hit, attack speed and AP and AD even though you aren't profiting from the latter as much. If not, go for Dead Man's Plate and for Guinsoo's after. Depending on the enemy team comb you can go for a Wit's end against an AP heavy team, Randuin's if you receive a lot of physical damage and I guess Frozen Mallet would work pretty decently aswell. Another thing to note is that Wit's End will max out Attackspeed, which is another reason not to take Zerker's.
The midseason Patch is almost here, and with it a lot of changes. It won't change much for the build though - you still get Bloodrazor, the Replacement for Sated Devourer and Guinsoo's, the reworked version will give you the phantom hit passive that Sated gives right now.
For Masteries I went full ham and lategame-oriented, 18/12, taking Fervor of Battle. Take Double-Edged Sword, Natural Talent, Bounty Hunter and Assassin if you want to go for a high risk-high reward kind of playstyle ( you may get up to 10% extra damage, which is a whole lot ) or for Feast, Vampirism, Opressor and Runic Affinity for a safer playstyle. You take Piercing Thoughts instead of Battering Blows because you'll deal more magical than physical damage, even though you're autohitting a lot.
My runes were AP quints, attacks peed marks, armor seals, 6 CDR per lvl and 3 MR per lvl glyphs.
Playstyle is basically farming early on and staying on the save side. Even though your ganks are actually really powerful, you should only do it when you can be sure that the enemy jungler won't be there to counterganks, though risking it will sometimes pay off. Fizz' clear is one of the fastest I've ever seen even though you can get pretty low early on.
If you get a kill early on which is not likely you can stop playing passive and actively search for kills in ganks in the enemy jungle. Only one relatively lucky kill on the enemy Lee in the last game ended up with me going 10/0 - if he would've killed me though and if he would've capitalized on that, I might've ended up with 0/10 instead. Know your limits.
When you get Devourer finished or you get a Stinger afterwards ( this thing actually gives an absurd amount of attackspeed, you gotta see it with your own eyes ), you are likely to get really good at dueling most enemy champions and junglers and you can turn off super-safe farm mode.
When it comes to what counters Fizz and what he counters, in my experience he seems to fare pretty well against either squishy champions that will simply get assassinated by him and tanks who you just will outmaneuver and autohit to death with your insane DPS. I struggled a lot against most hyper-dueling Champions like Trundle, Olaf, Fiora etc. or champions that were able to burst me before I could get off much autos. He also sucks against early invaders like Lee or Olaf.
That about wraps it up. Please let me know what you think about posts like these, first of this kind that I'm making.
