Matchmaking bug?

My friend is silver 1 but playing only with/against golds(would still be ok) and platinums(totally not ok). He is raging because he feeds the enemy who is 6 ranks higher than him. I think its wrong for the teammates to get a silver player in their team while the enemy is getting a plat. Is this a bug or just a bad matchmaking system?

neither, because it means his MMR is incredibly high, or the plats is incredibly low and is risking demotion. but hes only play 5, so he could still very well have around gold 1/2 MMR.
