But you've been uncertain about jut replacing it since the current incarnation is filling a totally different niche.

Why not just make a new item and keep the old Abyssal?

How about an AP counterpart to Black Cleaver? Something like . Make it shred 6% of the target's MR every time the user inflicts magic damage, stacking up to 30%. Maybe toss in some secondary passive as well? That would be great for all those tanky AP folks who want to sit in the middle of the fight with their AoE dots makin' the enemy team sad.
