Doing really poorly in Bronze

Frenz1·2/26/2017, 10:44:19 PM·9 votes·1,695 views

Okay so I haven't been playing league for too long but I finally reached level 30 about two weeks ago and decided to do my placements. I main support and ended up going 2-8 in them and got put into Bronze 2, which I was actually kinda happy about.

So now that I've been playing here for a while, I'm currently Bronze 3 with 6 LP because my WR looks like this W: 5 L: 19

Seriously how is that even possible? I will come right out and say that I am not a good player by any means, but when I play with some of my friends in silver, they say I'm about their skill level. I'm not 100% sure but I think I'm on at least 12 or 13 loss streak and it's getting really hard to stay motivated to play and improve.

I'll admit I am quite upset, but this is not a rage post. I would REALLY appreciate it if you guys could give me some tips or anything, or really just motivation to keep playing.

I love this game, it can be so much fun for me even as Thresh main support, but losing this many times is really hard to take.

Thanks in advance for your help :>

Okay, first things first.

Learn proper item builds for your champs. You have some okay item builds, while others seem really really weird to me. DON'T copy item builds from other bronze or even low silver players. Higher silver players will still have some weird builds, but most of them should already be more or less okay to begin with.

Maybe you can answer some of these questions, just to clarify what your line of thinking was when doing that. I'm referring to your op.gg. (Just look up the website if you don't know what I'm talking about, type in your player name and you'll get some helpful statistics, match history etc.)

Just tell me your thoughts about it and I'll try to explain your mistakes.

  1. Why do you build Serrated Dirk item 3134 and Longsword item 1036 on Thresh support?

  2. What is your thought behind Warlord's Bloodlust as a keystone on Fizz?

  3. Why do you go Runic Echoes item 1402 (AP) into Titanic Hydra item 3748 and supposedly Duskblade item 3147 on Evelynn?

  4. Why do you use Thunderlords on support Thresh?

A few general things: Your runepages seem to be quite decent for being a fresh lvl 30 player, just try to upgrade them so you have one runepage with AD reds, Armor yellows, Magic resistance blues and Attackspeed quints and the other one with Magic penetration reds, armor yellows, magic resistance blues and AP quints. Until you've got the magic pen runes you should use the AD reds instead of attackspeed for your AP runepage.

There are quite a few websites and youtube videos to learn about the league basic. Try to look up champs on champion.gg so you can get a general idea how to build them, what kind of runes they like, what skill order might be best and which masteries you could use. Once you know more about the game or meet some people with more extended game knowledge you can effectively alter these and be even better or at least just as effective.

What I do like is that you seem to be aware of what kind of damage enemies deal and that you often build accordingly, maybe just not the right items for the right champs. A thornmail item 3075 on a Fizz without any HP items for example might help a bit, but for thornmail to be really effective you need 1. HP 2. More armor. If you really need some armor and defense on non tanks, besides Guardian Angel item 3026 or Zhonya's item 3157 , try building Ninja Tabi's item 3047 and/or Randuin's item 3143 .

Try to think about what items do combined with other items. For example, if you're an adc who builds crit, why is it often better to build BF sword item 1038 first, then build item 3046 item 3094 item 3087 item 3085 right after that and then finish your Infinity Edge item 3031 or Essence Reaver item 3508? The BF sword gives you upfront damage which helps in the early laning phase. You can trade easier and better, you can lasthit and waveclear better etc., so it's a great first item. Infinity Edge and Essence Reaver on the other hand only grant a little bit more damage and only 20% crit + their passive (which you need crit for), so it's hard to make full use of these items, since your attackspeed and crit chance are too low for them to show their full potential, so you finish these first. Same goes for tank items, why do you build items with hp before you consider buying stuff like item 3110 , item 3075 item 3026 (for GA this only goes for tanky champs, not carries)? Because you need hp to really make the armor do significant work and you need armor to really make your hp do work.

Try to think about item choices like this and look up good builds for the champs you like to play.

Last but not least: You're still new, try as many champs and roles as possible, listen to people with better knowledge and even if some people might be rude, don't be too shy to ask questions, even ingame. (But please don't listen to other bronze teammates too much if you've already got an idea, many of them really lack the game knowledge to help out there :/ )

Have fun with the game!

PS: OH GOD, why did I write so much? The text is messed up anyways and this just came into my head... ._.

Play normals till you feel you are better then you are now. People shouldn't be playing ranked right out the gate, there is so much more you need to learn

honestly dont main support unless your duoing every game with a reliable adc..

-play a support the team may need. supports like Karma Janna Soraka SonaNami Morgana Alistar Taric Braum are worth putting the time into learning.

-zoning and trading. this is pretty important in the laning phase. denying your opponent cs by zoning them out of position is pretty powerful. try and trade and avoid just doing the all in every time, because they can go either way to easily.

-warding- warding is incredibly important for a support and in bronze its few and far between. always be buying item 2055 before you get item 2049 and constantly keep the bottom brush river warded. always upgrade your trinket to either item 3363 or item 3364. i like to constantly scan the map every 5 seconds or so and helping your team mates out with warning pings can sometimes save there ass's.

-running support items- are you building item 3069 item 3401 item 3092 with item 2045 and getting items like these for example item 3222 item 3107 item 3109 item 3190. if not i would start experimenting with them because in terms of utility and when used correctly they can have a very big impact.

-learn to play other roles decently, try to get good at at least 2 champs in every other role but your main.

I've got a good thresh build for you. He is my second most played champ but I don't play him anymore much, instead I play taric and nautilus. Ok, so for thresh I rush sightstone, lucidity boots, kindlegem. Early CDR is good for thresh. Then finish FoTM, pick up locket, then Knight's Vow. That seems to work pretty well for me at least. Other than that, I'd practice in norms for a bit with thresh. He's a really fun dude. Anyways good luck with the climb!

Mighty Mortein2/27/2017, 3:39:54 AM1 votes

Find a duo adc partner around your skill level. Relying on random bronze ADCs is too much of a gamble. I also play a fair amount of thresh, and this is the build I usually play with.

item 2302 item 3158 item 3190 item 3025/item 3110 item 3068 and I have a pretty decent success rate. Oh, and take Ignite. Extra kill pressure at level 2 if you hit it first.

When I first started about a year ago I started out in Silver 5. I was happy about ti too but then had a disgusting losing streak. I went 8 and 40 in ranked games, knocking me all the way down to bronze 5. I took a break from ranked and played normal draft only until I dominated in it. Normal draft had better players than blind pick. Then I grinded ranked forever, winning, losing w.e, but since I loved the game I kept my motivation. I'm Gold 4 now, and planning on hitting plat this season, if you truly want it, you can climb you just gotta play and play and play until you're better.

Im a supp main myself, i started as bronze 3 this season, n i carried myself outta bronze hell by only playing support.

dont: -dont play cc-heavy supports in bronze. Most people do not understand the concept of using cc duration to deal free damage. -dont play early game oriented supports n bronze. -dont _rush _ sightstone all the time in bronze. You should still get it but from my experience it's usually but not always, sometimes it's better to rush it easier to carry in bronze by getting sightstone 2nd/3rd back, and rarely 4th.

  • cc-heavy, early game supports mean champs like tank-build leona, thresh, alistar

do: -do play damage/sustain supports in bronze. They do not require teammates to follow up at a very specific time frame for u to be useful. -(optional) do find a duo partner who mains an adc champ that synergizes with ur main champ/playstyle i dont do it myself tbh

. i played primarily Sona, Soraka, Lux, Orianna(if ally yasuo is present), and Leona (if ally adc is draven) to get thru the bronze hell

playing Thresh is fine if u are proficient at harassing ur enemy laners with autoattacks early game again, damage supports are good in bronze. Otherwise I recommend staying away from it in most cases.

one of the most common misconceptions i see is that bronze players should stick to easy champs to climb. Statistics appear to support the claim only because bronze players also tend to have bad fps (under 60) and bad internet (100+ ping), thus making mechanically intense champions not reliable. Im sure even diamonds will have problem playing Thresh at 100+ ping.

If u have good fps and good internet, u should ignore others telling u to only play easy champs.

Don't play support until you have the knowledge on other roles like ADC, AP, and Top. Support is one of the hardest roles in the game to play in a way that can carry. Start with Middle, and play something like Annie. Very simple champion and works really well between the ranks Bronze to Gold. As an ADC you can do Ashe, and Top play Garen. Just learn solo lanes. I promise if you do, you will climb. Only Main supports if you have someone you can play with, for example, An ADC or a Mid.

your friends are delusional, you are not silver and looking at your match history it appears you are where you belong or perhaps even lower as you are completely new to the game. being called silver is also not really a compliment as silver is very easy to get to as you don't even have to win any games in placements to get placed here as I have experienced. if you really have the drive and intelligence to improve then just watch a few games of anyone that's diamond to understand what the game's about.

Git gud son. I just got demoted so I got back to bronze 2 not a big achievement but at least one shouldn't be disheartened by losing your progress. it's like a wave, roll with it and you'll climb.

There is a lot of micro interaction that goes on that will become familiar to you through experience. People will tell you the obvious things like items, runes, masteries, communicate with your team, etc. But smaller things like knowing positioning and vision tricks have significant impact, and these are things you learn by just playing more games or watching high elo players. To climb you need to understand that league is more than it appears on the surface and there are mind games involved. Sometimes you go into a game and you can tell that your lane opponent is way more or less skilled than you, even before anyone has died. Positioning in a fight and knowing how to dodge or land important skill shots can give you a huge advantage in trades. Part of this is predicting the enemy's movement, casting a spell where the enemy will go to try and dodge it instead of directly at them. Knowing how to control the minion wave, and based on its position, decide whether or not you should trade, roam, or recall. Eventually you will develop the skill of being able to read opponents, and react in ways that the enemy will not expect. Considering the game as a whole is also important to climbing, like "If we go for this objective, how will the enemy respond?"

Randomonium2/28/2017, 3:11:06 PM1 votes

Item builds and runes/masteries are the first thing you should look at. Honestly at first you should just copy what higher elo players do until you understand why people pick certain items in certain situations. Having sub optimal items/runes/masteries can often be the difference between you winning or losing a fight. I recommend checking out:

http://lolalytics.com/ https://na.op.gg/champion/statistics http://www.probuilds.net/ http://champion.gg/

Next, find high elo streamers who play the champions you enjoy playing. Literally every champion has a page on reddit and frequently those pages will have a post telling you all the streamers who play that champion. The goal is to try and copy these players to the best of your ability. If they ward at a particular time or roam at a particular time then you should be asking yourself "why do they do that?" If they decide to engage you should ask "what did they see that caused them to want to engage?"

Its pretty typical to drop after your placements. When I first started I got placed in bronze 1 and dropped to bronze 4 before I figured out how to climb. Climbing takes A LOT of games. While league is a skill based game there is a luck based element and that is your team. I don't want you to take this the wrong way though. Your team is not holding you back. However, when you have a small sample size of games its possible to be unlucky. The only way to know for sure its to keep grinding out games. If after 100 games you still have a 40% win rate then chances are the issue is with you, not your team. The point of me saying this is to drive home the point that not every game is winnable. Roughly 40% of the time you are going to lose no matter how good you play. However, roughly 40% of the time you will win even if you don't play very well. What really determines whether or not you climb is what you do with that last 20% of games where the game is extremely close. In those games a single mistake can throw the game. The important thing is to not go on tilt after losing a game because that increases your chance of losing subsequent games that you could have won.

Even if you are at a silver skill level it will most likely take you at least 100 games to reach silver. Climbing in ranked is like an overdamped system. The closer you get to your actual rank the longer it takes to actually get there. For example, if you were at a gold skill level you'd probably get out of bronze very easily but then struggle a ton in silver to reach gold.

Finally, if you still can't figure out why you can't climb get a coach. There are plenty of free coaches on sites like https://www.leaguecoaching.gg/

Hope that helps. Remember that climbing is a marathon not a sprint. There are people playing this game with thousands or even tens of thousands more games than you. Try not to focus on whether or not you win but instead focus on whether or not you are improving.

You need more experience. That's the main thing. Being able to gauge someone's damage and tankiness just by looking at their items and champion is pretty useful.

Head Connoisseur3/1/2017, 9:06:48 AM1 votes

The biggest piece of advice would be to just keep playing and getting accustomed to different match ups and situatuons. 24 ranked games isn't really enough to judge.

I will say though that being a support player in low-mid bronze is probably one of the hardest situations any lol player can be in, since you typically don't have nearly the level of impact as other players as the game goes on.

I would say just keep practicing, and try to limit your champion pool to just a few champions and master them, rather than trying to strictly look for counterpicks etc. Good luck!

I may not be a support main, but I have three pretty quick tips to help you out in general.

  1. Play easy champs. Stuff like Soraka, Sona, Taric. Just simple champs that are great in the support role, none of this Malzahar and Zyra stuff.

  2. Watch youtubers/streamers. Personally I would reccomend Phylol, Pants are Dragon, and Redmercy to watch. They all go through what they think about when they play the game, and they all make great informative guides for the game. As for streamers, Aphromoo and Bunny fufu are probably your best bets when it comes to support mains.

  3. Just play the game, the more that you play the game the more you will be able to know what works and what doesn't.
