New champ select confussion

Riot, With the new champ select such as ranked champ select, there is some confusion to those who have not used the new champ select. I have not played ranked this season yet and i have not played with the new champ select either. When i join a game i had picked my champ like you are allowed to in the very beginning and then following came the bans. The first game i had joined i was deciding on whether to pick Tristana or MissFortune and i had already clicked on Tristana just in case and what i had not known was that you have to lock in so i was kicked from the sequence. I waited out my time and then joined another game where the same problem occurred but with another player on my team doing the same as i had. I then join a final game and i was chosen to ban and was confused that i was making the bans and when i go to choose who to ban it wouldn't except the ban so i became kicked and was given another time penalty. My point that i am trying to get across is that there seems to be confusion with the new champ select for those who haven't used it yet. So if you could, please make it more clear to those who haven't tried the new champ select or return to where once you have selected your champ it locks in and if a team misses a ban they lose out on a ban.
