A Simple Quality of Life Change to Make Champ Select Better
With champ select the way it is today, people are able to hover their intended picks. This is a good thing, as it can allow you to plan out your team composition beforehand and then ban champions that would do well against it. It also can tell your team to not ban a specific champion, say, Azir, if you are second pick overall and are likely to get it. However, this doesn't always work. Earlier today, I queued up for a game, got mid, and decided to hover Brand. Much to my dismay, our final ban was used on Brand. I wasn't particularly angry since I was just practicing him in normals, but I did ask him why he banned Brand. As it turns out, he just didn't notice my hover. Fast forward to my next game. The same thing nearly happened. Our top laner hovered Irelia as their pick, and our second ban hovered Irelia ban before the chat log blew up telling him not to, because he didn't notice the Irelia hover.
Now, I know this doesn't happen every game. In fact, it rarely happens to me at all. But when it does happen, it can range from being a minor nuisance, like it was for my Brand pick, to full-on tilting when a One-Trick Pony's champ is banned by their own team. So I would like to propose a very simple, and hopefully easy to make, change that would make such a thing very unlikely to happen.
Similar to how when a champ is banned and their icon is greyed out with a little lock symbol over it, I think if Riot added a little exclamation point, star, check mark, X, cursor, or some other indicator during champ select to the hovered champions' icons would reduce the amount of times in which a teammate accidentally bans out one of their team's picks. Say you're scrolling down to ban Rengar, but you see a little exclamation point on his champion icon. You then think, "Oh, one of my teammates is hovering Rengar. I probably shouldn't ban him since he is third pick overall." Boom. Problem solved.
Like I said before, I don't think this is too big of a problem, especially since you can already see every champion that your team is hovering just by looking for five seconds. But I also think that this is such an easy thing to implement that there's no reason for it not to already be in the game, as it would occasionally save you, and your team, some headache. If you made it this far, thanks for reading, and I hope that your champion is never banned from you by your own team on accident!
