((I put a lot of effort into this, even calculating the gold efficiency and making the item cost correct, so please read before you downvote, ty friend!)

Hello, I'm Dulu - currently Platinum 5 (and climbing) in solo queu. I main midlane, normally Lux, Ziggs, Twisted Fate. I love my mages.

Currently, your itemization for an AP mage looks like this:

item 2041 or item 1056 item 3174 or item 3165 item 3020 or item 3158 item 3285 item 3089 or item 3135 (and then the other) item 3157

So really, you only have two "choices", and they're kind of made for you depending on your champion and the enemy champions. There are a few other items you may sub in and out, like item 3151 or item 3100 , but for the most part, your build is going to be the pattern I listed above.

If you look over these items, you'll notice one pretty important stat is missing. Magic Resist. Yes, there is the paltry MR from item 3174 , but that's simply not enough lategame in the current meta where Viktor and Ahri can accidentally kill you with an errant Q. item 3001 isn't ideal on many mages due to its very short range of effectiveness.

I propose the following item:

item 1058 1250 + item 3211 1200

100 AP 50 MR 300 Health Unique Passive: Grants 150% Base Health Regeneration after taking damage from an enemy champion. Unique Passive: Regrowth: When dropping below 30% Health, you replenish 15% of your maximum health instantly. (120 second cooldown) 3,000 Gold

This item becomes a "Zhonya's Hourglass" against AP users. The unique passive acting as a "Cheat Death" effect, replacing the "Immunity" effect from Zhonya's.

Why wouldn't you just get Banshee's Veil? You lose a bit of damage, but building 6 offensive items is typically a bad idea anyways.

If you are a siege mage such as Xerath or Ziggs, you can play far enough back that little will actually reach you when positioned correctly. Banshee's Veil will block off those few abilities that reach you and prevent you from getting locked down. 5 offensive items is typically enough anyways.

Though I will say that I'm happy you didn't propose that the item build out of Quicksilver Sash. That suggestion is made all too often.

Wut. Tanks barely get enough magic resist because all the MR items suck, and you want to give mages just as much? LEL.

Your requesting more defense while building more offense. It's balanced now so your squishy if you build offense and you give up some damage for defense like banshe

Riot's trying to figure out how to get rid of item 3001 , they're not going to make a more powerful cousin of it.

It's broken and we don't need another mr/ap item. Instead of this make an item what helps mages against ad dps.

This item makes ryze, vlad and swain too strong. So, no.

This item would break the game in so many ways.

Take this: Rylai's is 3000g, 100AP, 400HP, and a slow on spells You are saying that 50MR + 300HP + regen passive + half of a volibear passive instantly is worth the same as 400HP and some slows.

This item would need to cost 5000g to be balanced, and even then, its slot efficiency is literally the best in game. Lets never do this.
