Juggernauts are not Tanks

I looked over the way things are tagged now and am extremely disappointed, just because a champ can soak damage does not make them a tank, we only have a few real tanks in the game, everything else is just a sponge at best. Tanks need to be able to lock down assassins to be considered Wardens, or Hard engage with a lockdown from range to be considered Vanguards. Riot should retag the juggernauts to be something other than secondary tanks, because they do none of those functions, the best they can do is try to kill the enemies who dive hopefully before the enemy kills their target.

I am really discouraged by the tags being associated with this class of champions and wonder what the developers are thinking by putting this on champs who cannot perform the roles they are associated with.

Juggernauts are a subclass of Fighters.

Most juggernauts in the game are labelled as tanks, because those are old tags - they are obsolete, and will be replace by new ones sometime after client update.

Juggernauts are still tanky. The problem with real tanks is more regarding their itematisation. If you think about what they currently have as build options. It's just to cry on.

The tag system is dated and does not accurately reflect League's current class structure. Personally, I'd just ignore whichever tags a champion's given and assess them with either their kit or Riot's own designation of their class.

Well I for one look forward to the update on class labels, because I am tired of telling me that I am a tank when I am playing a Juggernaut, the only things they have in common is that they both soak damage.

They said sometime they would update the tags to be something like:

Darius Class: Fighter Subclass: Juggernaut

or

Veigar Class: Mage Subclass: Burst Mage

Before the first class update, there were no such thing as juggernauts, wardens, vanguards etc. So today's juggernauts were fighters that simply built tanky, therefore they were labeled as Primary: Fighter Secondary: Tank to help new players get an idea of what to expect and what to build. The current labeling system is antiquated and will be replaced once all the class updates are finished.

I think people get too wrapped up over a technical label. Most juggernauts build tanky or tank items. I don't think it matters too much.

Hmm I suppose. But you can take that further with just role designations. Top is supposed to be a tank, Mid is suppose to be a Mage or Assassin, Bot is suppose to have a marksmen and a tank or mage and jungler is suppose to be what the team needs.

The reality is higher elo players should understand the functionality of most champions and that the technicality of a label shouldn't hinder their game play.

You could make the case that this is largely for new players to the game? But then the definition needs to be simple and clear to them.

"Juggernauts do this" while "fighters do this" but "Both fighters and juggernauts don't do this, that is what tanks do".

At that point, if I were a new player, I would just say "So juggernauts are basically tanks". In which case, I think the labels do not matter unless they can be explained simply and succinctly to a new player, who has absolutely no experience in the game.

Any seasoned player should know that juggernauts don't do the same things as tanks, but they have overlap.

Maybe a Venn Diagram would be the best means to explain the champion pools.
