AP Item Problems (as I see it).
So, the overall issue is that there aren't enough item choices in a mage's build, all three classes of mages build exactly the same items with some exceptions, and usually one mage just has an fixed build without true situational items. All three classes of mages should get their own set of core items to build as well as situational items to choose from. We also lack defensive itemization to build when behind.
Also, mage items suffer the most from having the most items that are too generally good and that hurts the possibility of having options. For example, Zhonya is probably the best defensive item for a mage, period, at the cost of being clunky and unsatisfying to build. Also, Luden's is probably the only item that could be focused on poking, but it is also very good for burst damage. But the biggest offenders here are probably Rabadon's and Void Staff. Rabadon is regarded as the IE for mages, the ultimate scaling item for magical damage. At the moment, it is too expensive to efficiently build it, and I think its problem is that is not focuses enough for specific mages. I think its passive amplification should be removed and the item should be divided in a DPS focused item for Battle Mages and a Burst focused item for Burst Mages. Void Staff suffers the exactly same issue, and it should be transformed into a flat pen item for burst mages, while Liandry should be the %pen item for Battle Mages. What do you think about these ideas?
